5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for each Zimbabwe related person, July 3, 2009
This review is from: Nkomo: My Life (Hardcover)
Authentic report from Father Zimbabwe about his life in the centre of the freedom struggle, written during his enforced exile, 1983 in London. The early Zimbabwe gets described from his fresh memories!
The book describes his political life and the resistance history in South Rhodesia from 1950 to 1980, then "The Doubtful Elections" and "Zimbabwe's False Start", being "Outcast" and under "Repression", but still hoping "Freedom Lies Ahead".
While not officially banned, no single copy of the book has been sold in Zimbabwe. That refers also to the Sapes 2001 Harare paperback issue.

Small differences between the 1984 London issue and the 2001 Harare issue:

Text: Introduction + pp.1-252 + Appendix A & B
(2001: p.1-260, added Publisher's Foreword: Ibbo Mandaza, August 2001)

"That clown Herbert Oshewokunze" p.4, as Oshe.. & Ushe..each full indexed
"That clown Herbert Ushewokunze," O --> U, but p.4 not indexed in 2001

Freedom Camp, just north of Lusaka..."refugee camp for young boys. Most of the 351 who died were just youngsters." (S. 167; 2001 S. 173: "35 who died")

That number in the Harare 2001 edition ISBN 1-77905-122-0 is not correct.

The cheep paper of the 1984 issue turned meanwhile to amber colour, while the pictures were perhaps secondary copied in 2001 from the 1984 issue.
Both issues are world wide available in good sorted libraries or by spending a small fee for inter-library loan, probably except of Zimbabwean libraries in order not to disturb the ZANU rewritten history.
The book should get printed a 3rd time, especially since ZAPU withdraw recently from Unity Accord of 1987. Due to its relevance I can offer the translation into German, but copyrights today unclear.
