I love all but song #2 on this CD. Every one. Especially "No Abandon". And #7 is a great country song that sounds very "old time", though it's not. These two are very talented. I've only had it several wks and I bet I've listened to it at least 15 times. Get it - you won't regret it.

Bob Walkenhorst and Jeff Porter are two of the best songwriters out there. This is a great collection of songs. Jeff Porter's "Jimmy Lee", a song about his uncle, brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it. Top notch songs, well performed and well recorded. If you like singer-songwriters, this album won't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars He just gets better, August 28, 2009

I feel like Walkenhorst has been watching my life. These are songs to contemplate. Songs of experience, of lost chances, of failure and success. Jeff Porter is a great compliment to Bob's style. He has an incredible voice that creates enjoyable harmonies with Bob and crew. It is wonderful to find musicians that speak for the over 50 crowd.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best $7.99 you can spend!, July 21, 2009

Download this music! Here are some random lyrics:

This is the path that I am taking, through the folded fields of sleep.

Some days are a comedy and others are a crime, but most are masterpieces of a ludicrous design....

Tears don't roll uphill they say, but over my shoulder I expect some day to hear a voice say, "Love aren't you going my way?"

All my memories aren't good ones; coulda, shoulda, woulda ones, but then there are a couple I wouldn't trade. Like the night when I first met her: Would I forget her, or regret her. Ask them ghosts dancing on my grave.

If heaven's a street -- yours is lined with lovers, who sigh and say how beautiful you are. Admirers from afar -- Wherever you are, I hope you're laughing.

These isolated lines don't begin to do the songs justice; spend the $7.99 (or buy the CD) and see for yourself....

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite new cd, January 25, 2010
This review is from: No Abandon (Audio CD)
I love this cd. Bob Walkenhorst (from The Rainmakers) is such a talented musician and songwriter. Great lyrics through and through. Jeff Porter's song "Ruin the Rain" is wonderful and simply beautiful. I totally get the lyrics to that song. These songs by Walkenhorst and Porter deserve attention and recognition. Overland Hill is also one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff!, August 1, 2010
This review is from: No Abandon (Audio CD)
My girlfriend and I first heard these two guys in Molloy's Pub in Weston, MO about three years ago. What a pleasant surprise. We knew nothing of their musical history, but it was obvious they had a DEVOTED following. While still enjoyable and with some good songs, the energy, intelligence and synergy of the two of them as a duo was lacking on most of the solo albums we purchased that night (except on the tracks where they performed together). But No Abandon captures that energy. As I listen to it, I'm transported to their live performance, and I see why people love them so much. These are good singer-writers and great performers, writing and singing about things most of us think about but can't articulate; they have heart; plus, the songs grow on you. It's good stuff. Finding that these guys had a (relatively) new album was as happy a surprise as that night in Weston. I look forward to seeing them live again someday.
