a fine intro indeed, November 21, 2003

you am i have been around more than ten years now, but it's ok that you've never heard of them. they're australian, their music isn't played on the radio here, and their records are nearly impossible to fine. so if you're going to put time and effort into becoming a fan, 'no, after you sir...' really is the place to start. this is a fine collection of you am i's songs, and pretty good representation of what they are about. the only complaints i can offer are 1. the song 'damage' is missing (a truly beautiful song) and 2. the band's first album 'sound as ever' is poorly represented here. granted, it's not their best album, but there are still a few stand out tracks that we're missing out on. one track from 'sound as ever' that is available here is a fantastic live version of 'berlin chair,' a song which is undeniably perfect in every way. other notable tracks: 'get up' and 'heavy heart' constrast each other very nicely in tone.
