Editorial Reviews

Rock band Kashmir is attracting the ears of more than just the average rock-n-roller these days. Two of the most important figures in the history of the genre, David Bowie and Lou Reed, have lent their voices to the band's newest album No Balance Palace, that is the follow up to the much praised Zitilites. Bowie teams up with lead singer Kasper Eistrup for a duet on 'The Cynic', while ex-Velvet Underground front man Lou Reed reads an Eistrup poem on the 'Black Building' track. According to Kashmir's label, the agreement with Bowie fell into place when Eistrup met him at a concert in New York. Bowie was familiar with Kashmir and offered to lend his efforts to the new album. Kashmir's first single from the album, 'The Curse of Being a Girl' has already been released. Columbia. 2005. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

This is the best album of the danish band since they found their sound in the good life, i'm so proud of being a fan since the begining, this album is not like the others, they have now a live sound, kind of like the sound you get when you listen to them live, my favorite the cynic with the deep voice of david bowie ,a song to remember, i hope they como to mexico soon,

4.0 out of 5 stars creative, March 26, 2011

I like music that tends toward the haunting, ethereal, or moody. This group is unusual, creative and has their own sound. I don't regret getting this album. A couple of the songs are simply top shelf and can be played over and over!

3.0 out of 5 stars No Balance Palace - Not Quite, December 6, 2009

I was familiarized with this album through Pandora. I was most intrigued by the tracks "Kalifornia", and "Ophelia." I had heard "She's Made of Chalk" and others and thought that on further listening they would grow on me. I have come to the conclusion that with the exception of the first two tracks I initially enjoyed, the rest of the album is mediocre. I want to like "Ether"; it is either too slow or repetitive, the chorus almost grabs me, but doesn't quite get there. "Curse of Being a Girl" is a terrible song. It grosses me out. The title track I enjoy half of quite a lot, the end of the song; however, I like much less. It changes from the more laid back beginning into a failed attempt at rock and roll ending, which is too bad, the first half of the song is interesting. "The Cynic" featuring David Bowie is almost a good song. It's chorus is too generic and the lyrics too cliche. It sounds like uncharacteristically depressing and unimaginitive Weezer song off the green album to me. I don't really like Weezer and I hate the green album by the way.
I wouldn't buy this album if I could do it all over again. If you are looking for something Danish I would check out Mew. If you can get past the extremely high girly voice they have some really awesome music.
