[Written to balance this album's only other review which gave it 1* and had nothing to do with the album itself... I downloaded the MP3 version and the sound was fine]

Normally, I like rock to feature in your face guitars and energy. I got hooked on the early LC records which had a more driving sound featuring plenty of hyper electric guitars while also incorporating nice unique touches like glockenspiel, violins, some keyboard, occasional horns, and also featured complex, literate lyrics without distracting from the essence that the music was rocking. This album continues LC's 'maturation' process... the newer LC sound continues w/ clever lyrics but the music has guitars (often acoustic) buried lower in the mix and generally features keyboards and vocals layered in front of everything which I guess makes it more pop than rock.

That said, after owning this for over a month I do enjoy the songs whenever one comes up during shuffle; and if you're in a low to middle energy status, then this album is a good selection. Definitely a good addition to your collection and well worth its current price of $5.

Suggested songs to sample: As Lucerne/the Low; Avocado, Baby; What Death Leaves Behind.

I'd also recommend checking out LC's other LPs for higher energy songs: the excellent 'Romance is Boring'; the moody 'We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed'; and the energetic 'Hold on Now, Youngster'.

I wanted this album for a while, but I was hesitant to purchase the digital download of Los Campesinos! No Blues from Amazon because of a review that said the encoding sounded bad. Well, I have no idea what that fella is talking about (I notice also that the review in question is not labeled as an Amazon verified purchase. So.) The digital download sounds great, sounds like CD quality and is definitely in stereo, not mono.

So feel free to buy No Blues from Amazon (right now it is $5, so you'd be a dummy not to get it at this great price) or directly from the band or from your local record store, whatever you want. It is a great set of songs- catchy, tight songwriting, good energy, and I really can't imagine anyone not liking these guys.

Now I just need to see them live, cause I can just tell they put on a great show.

I too am giving this 5 stars to increase its overall rating, because I think it clearly deserves it. I bought this album and honestly could find nothing wrong with the sound. I am new to Los Campesinos, but I instantly enjoyed this album. I particularly like the band's semi-New Wave sound, which clearly draws influence from the Cure. Give it a listen. If you like raw, independent rock and roll, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Now don't get me wrong - LC! are amazing and this album is as good as anything they have release. The problem is that Amazon MP3 encoding is terrible. I believe it was encoded in mono. I compared the sound of the album to LC!'s own SoundCloud page, and you can really hear the difference.

Amazon on their part did refund my purchase price, however, I would wait to purchase this album from Amazon until they re-encode the album.
