Book Description

How many times have you thought that there’s got to be a better way to reach more people and make more money with your music?

With a unique approach to touring and turning a profit, singer-songwriter Shannon Curtis has released an in-depth eBook that details how up-and-coming artists can follow her direct-to-fan recipe for making way more fans and way more money.

No Booker, No Bouncer, No Bartender: How I Made $25K On A 2-Month House Concert Tour (And How You Can Too) breaks down in plain language and precise detail a plan for artists that doesn’t follow the traditional club & coffeehouse methodology. Topics covered include:

Finding the right hosts: how to build an itinerary using your existing email list and social media relationships

Creating the ideal performance space: how to focus your audience and maximize your show’s intimacy and connectivity

Helping your hosts put together their invite lists: how to set yourself up for a successful event by guaranteeing “critical mass”

Setup and flow: how best to pace the evening to maximize guests’ experience (and your income!)

Gathering donations: how to partner with your host for a financially successful event

Merchandise strategies: how to create awareness, maximize your effectiveness, and make more money

Making sure you have the right gear: specific equipment recommendations and how-tos

But more than just giving procedural suggestions, Curtis goes deeper, thoroughly explaining the psychology and interpersonal dynamics behind her tremendously successful house concert touring method. You won’t just come away with a knowledge of what works, you’ll understand why it works.

Curtis says: “My decision several years ago to abandon traditional club touring in favor of house concerts has made my career as an artist better on every measurable level. I sell more albums and merch, generate more income, receive more signups to my email list, and most importantly, I make stronger, deeper connections with the people listening to my music. With this book, I’m confident that you can open the door to a whole new world of deeply enriching performance experiences, whether you’re a veteran artist or a complete rookie to touring.”

“Shannon Curtis captures in this book the essence of what it means to be an independent musician: 100% control of your career and 100% of the benefits. Curtis’s alternative model for touring cuts out the middleman, and puts the power (and money) back in the hands of the artists. She’s a true entrepreneur, and an inspiration for any artist looking to become successful on their own terms.”Patti Silverman, SF Music Tech

"I just wanted to thank you. I have been expanding my booking schedule and using house shows more frequently and leaning heavily on your model, and it is literally changing my life. I am making more money, and finding myself more fulfilled and encouraged than ever before while building a better fan base than ever before. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Thank you."Bradford Loomis, independent artist, Seattle

4.0 out of 5 stars Great detail, great enthusiasm February 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm working on a solo album right now, and after reading this book, I'm seriously thinking about whether house concerts might be the best way to promote it. Curtis' writing is clear, detailed, and persuasive. She makes such a great case for this business strategy—and make no mistake, a business strategy is what it is, but it also sounds like a lot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for touring artists February 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
As an independent artist who's done nearly a hundred house shows, I'm here to tell you that anyone who's considered going that route needs this book. Of all the crap we waste money on as artists, nothing I can think of will give you the return on investment this book will. Shannon gives you a staggering level of detail on everything from arrival time to merch location to what music to play after the show is done. Stop reading this review and read the book, like, now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Summation of a new area of performance April 22, 2014
By Hybrid
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Shannon Curtis clarifies a number of points, based on her own experience, in summing up the do's and don't's of home concert performing. In an age when even the bar gigs may not generate enough revenue for artist survival, the option of performing for an audience in a listening environment is an excellent way for a performer to "get out there."
Additionally, she takes a lot of the mystery from the procedure by pointing out what has worked, as well as what hasn't. The subtle points are probably the most valuable, simply because they are points generally not even considered by the average performer, let alone someone who wishes to host a show!
Thank you to Shannon Curtis for sharing her experiences in a practical guide to in house concert performing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Musicians April 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book contains a lot of useful tips about what type of equipment to bring on the road at an affordable price. I also thought that the info about how to ask for donations at a house show was also pretty helpful. The book is not too long and is definitely something I can refer back to in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the future. February 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Shannon Curtis has been there, and done that. Her voice is one of talent and experience.

We all want to live the dream and have a successful, full life based solely on our creative endeavors. It is easy to say, and nowhere close to easy to accomplish.

Shannon provides an authentic history, one that is full of hard-learned lessons, funny stories, and the clear focus that is ultimately the most vital aspect of an independent musician.

If touring is your dream, then this is your roadmap.

5.0 out of 5 stars All you need is three chords, the truth, and this book. September 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Shannon Curtis's husband (and co-author) and I worked together in nightclubs many years ago and he's about as solid a dude as they come. Shannon is a great singer and if you ever get a chance, make sure you see her live.

This book is packed with great advice from two people who are living legit artist's lives and supporting themselves.

It;s obviously geared towards musicians, but I think any entrepreneur or freelancer who works creatively could find a few nuggets of wisdom in here. I work in social media and advertising now and I think the parts of the book that deal with promotion could easily be adapted to small business stuff or event planning.

4.0 out of 5 stars AWesome book, should be priced higher. November 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Shannon has a very awesome language pattern and a great way of saying "Get over it" when it comes to negative mindsets. I love her approach and her method of sharing openly what she's learned.

This book is a quick read, gets to the nitty gritty quickly and presents a strong case for house concerts.

what I WISH she would have included was the "PDF" that's mentioned repeatedly in the book but never actually displayed. Also some template e-mails she's had success with would really really be beneficial. That would take it to 5 stars (and it should be priced higher IMHO)

My recording producer/engineer told me about this book. I'd stopped singing and didn't know how I'd start again. I recorded a song and got "the bug" again. After some coaching and pretty intense encouragement from new friends, I'm doing house concerts and this book has been a God-send. The only thing I'm having trouble finding is a book like this for people who don't play instruments and have to sing over backing tracks. I can't find ANY information on this at all.
