Book Description

June 22, 2009 Wiley
An essential guide for putting workforce management systems to work for your business

Showing you how to take your business from reactive to proactive and improve performance, No Boundaries provides a vendor-neutral guide on how your company can use workforce management systems to improve productivity and profits. Drawing upon years of experience implementing these systems, author Lisa Disselkamp offers numerous case studies illustrating how organizations have used workforce management systems to solve their business problems and discusses:

  • How the latest software uses data from time and attendance to create real time visibility into employee activity and cost
  • Developments in labor management technology that can mitigate the challenges faced by employers in every industry and public sector
  • Using labor data to achieve financial goals and maximize profits
  • Using workforce management technology to enhance operations, quality, compliance, and employee satisfaction and retention
  • Adding value to data through integration with other key business information
  • How to build a business case and gain internal support for an investment in time and labor management technology
  • Guide to selecting and installing time and labor systems

This book bridges the gap between what business leaders understand about their business and what they have yet to learn about this technology. The author introduces the concept of Mission Based Configuration, showing companies how to apply time and labor systems to their business needs to save time and money. The use of technology offers an effective tool to manage budgets, meet strategic targets, and channel decision-making toward best practices. No Boundaries reveals how your business can win the race for profits and productivity.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Written for business managers and executives who need to labor costs, increase productivity and enforce accountability within their organizations, this guide to workforce management technology uses case studies to "demystify" the technologies used to implement these human captial systems." (Book News, August 2009)

From the Inside Flap

Technology should be saving you money and it should be an important tool your organization can count on to achieve its strategic, operational, and financial goals.

So . . . is it?

Showing you how to take your business from reactive to proactive in improving performance, No Boundaries reveals how your company can use workforce management technology (WMT) to boost productivity and profits and enforce accountability.

Insightful and pragmatic, No Boundaries demystifies WMT, time & labor management (TLM) technology, and human capital management (HCM). It sets the stage by explaining how technology has evolved in recent years and draws on case histories and existing WMT systems to illustrate what's working and how. In addition, it identifies critical issues to consider when moving into the acquisition, design, and planning stages of a WMT system.

Author and labor technology expert Lisa Disselkamp reveals how to map a vision of success using the tools outlined in this book. You will learn:

  • How time and attendance data can significantly enhance your visibility into labor trends within your organization
  • Developments in labor management technology that can help you mitigate staffing, compliance, and financial challenges faced by business and industry today

  • How to use labor data to achieve financial goals and maximize profits

  • How to leverage workforce management technology to enhance operations, quality, and compliance

  • Where to add value to data through collection, integration, and real-time distribution

No Boundaries is a practical, step-by-step guide that will enable you to analyze your processes from end to end and break down labor management boundaries so that financial and operational executives will better understand how time and labor management technology can help maximize productivity and profits across the organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Boundaries exceeded my expectations, October 26, 2009
This review is from: No Boundaries: How to Use Time and Labor Management Technology to Win the Race for Profits and Productivity (Wiley) (Hardcover)
I began reading this book expecting a boring dissertation on economics and labor management. I was very impressed with the down to earth conversation style the author used to convey state of the art time and labor issues. Lisa has literally written the text book on how to sell technology in your organization, how to install the technology, and how to get the results that go not only to the bottom line of your business but also allow you to manage your workforce fairly and consistently. The book is an easy read and quick reference guide for how to do time and labor management right from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Next Level, September 9, 2009
This review is from: No Boundaries: How to Use Time and Labor Management Technology to Win the Race for Profits and Productivity (Wiley) (Hardcover)
The author has laid out the argument and pathway for taking workforce data and turning it into intelligence. In a very practical, easy to follow style, she shows how management short changes itself by not utilizing the intelligence that underlies the data they collect on the workforce. Success is seldom achieved through one master stroke. It is more often the dogged application of intelligence. Edison allegedly had a sign in his office that said, It is remarkable how far some people will go to avoid thought." Watson's IBM motto was simply, "Think". Lisa has put those ideas into practice by showing management how to think about people. No Boundaries: How to Use Time and Labor Management Technology to Win the Race for Profits and Productivity (Wiley)
