Book Description

5 and upK and up
There are absolutely,
Positively,
Without a doubt,
No boys allowed in my room.

So begins the title poem of this fun-loving collection about the living-room romps, backyard play, rainy-day bickering, and special bonds between brothers and sisters. John Micklos, Jr., poet and compiler of the best-selling Mommy Poems and other family anthologies, shares his favorites by poets Allan A. De Fina, Rebecca Kai Dotlich, Kristine O'Connell George, Nikki Grimes, Sara Holbrook, Emanuel di Pasquale, and many others. With beautiful watercolors by Kathleen O'Malley, this book is one parents, caregivers, and children will return to again and again for a dose of humor - and a reminder that for every moment of sibling rivalry, there are a billion moments of love.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 3 Twenty-four short poems explore a range of sibling relationships. Almost all of them have appeared in print before and most are by contemporary authors such as Nikki Grimes, Eileen Spinelli, and Rebecca Kai Dotlich. Brief biographical notes are appended. A variety of poetic forms are represented, such as rhyming, free verse, and concrete. Some selections reflect modern family life, such as Mary Ann Hoberman's Half-Whole-Step. Others, like Allan A. De Fina's My Older Sister's in the Bathroom, describe situations common to many children. Bright, full-page illustrations, mostly showing children of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, accompany the entries. Although the well-executed, sweetly rendered watercolors do not extend the meaning of the verses, they do an adequate job of portraying content. An appealing choice.
