5 Blue Ribbons from Romance Junkies!,

This review is from: No Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
Continuing her LAST CHANCE RESCUE series, phenomenal new author Christy Reece once more invites readers into her world of kidnapping and espionage with NO CHANCE, the story of Gabe Maddox and Skylar James.
Years ago, a much younger Gabe and Skyler met on an idyllic island while both were on vacation. Inseparable, Skyler and Gabe fell in love with each other and hastily married -- both kept secrets from the other. When Skyler goes home to her father and tells him of her marriage, her father is disappointed and furious. Unbeknownst to Skyler, while she is visiting her mother, her father is visiting Gabe who remained in their cabin on the island. Skyler flies back to the island and it is there that she finds their cabin empty and a note left by Gabe. It seems he didn't love her that much after all. Gabe has never forgotten Skyler James, uh...Maddox. Still holding a grudge against his wife for lying to him so long ago and getting her father to come tell him she no longer wanted to be married, Gabe is finally ready to move on with his life and obtain a divorce. Then comes word through his employer, Last Chance Rescue, with the news that Skyler has been kidnapped and a ransom demanded. Gabe knows he is setting his heart up for a big let down but even after all of these years, he still loves his beautiful Skyler and there is no way that anyone else is going to find and carry her to safety. Skyler and Gabe's relationship is definitely not over. From the moment they meet again, their feelings for each other come to the forefront and while neither trusts the other, they do know one thing. Their hearts have never been as full as when they are in each other's arms. Lies, misconceptions, and pure stubbornness are the name of the game in NO CHANCE. Skyler, a world renowned model whose portfolio and bank account could support a small country, wants to be loved for herself and not for her money or her beauty. Gabe, when they meet, seems to be the person she has been looking for her entire life. He is unpretentious, giving, and he loves her. Fast forward eight years and Gabe is still those things but he is also angry, stubborn, and cautious. He and Skyler's relationship has to be rebuilt from the ground up - no matter that they still love each other. They no longer know each other and for that to happen, they have to let down their guards. And thankfully, they did because the results were amazing! Christy Reece has another awesome release in the winner's box with NO CHANCE. Action, passion, lies, and kidnappers - who could ask for anything more? Natalie S.

"NO CHANCE" for anything less than 5 stars!!,

I admit to being a huge fan of Christy Reece's books and writing style. I very much enjoy the way she moves her stories back and forth between past and present. I like how her characters move from book to book with us. As her secondary character base increases, so does the depth of her storylines. As an added plus to the lead story, you are also presented with many details introducing you to characters in upcoming books.
In NO CHANCE, Christy Reece continues the Last Chance Rescue trilogy with another riveting romantic suspense filled with complex, flawed and strong characters who struggle to deal with a myriad of emotions and problems. As a reader, I feel as if I'm on an emotional roller coaster ride through each page and at the end, I'm never disappointed. It's as if I've been on the best ride in the amusement park. Christy Reece has been an auto-buy for me from her very first book. Each book leaves me begging for more!

exciting romantic suspense second chance at love,
This review is from: No Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
On Kalamina Island in the South Pacific, Gabe Maddox and Skylar James met, apparently fell in love and married. However, happily ever after ended before it began as her wealthy father Jeremiah managed to split the couple. Their last exchange between them was Gabe's note of departure.
Eight years later, when his beloved daughter is kidnapped, a desperate Jeremiah hires Last Chance Rescue unaware that Gabe is one of their operatives. Gabe takes charge of the mission in which Skylar was kidnapped trying to learn what happened to her best friend Kendra. The latest Last Chance Rescue (see Rescue me and Run to Me) is an exciting romantic suspense second chance at love, if they survive, thriller. Gabe hides his anger over feeling she betrayed him and desire behind a stoic do the job and move on mask; while Skylar remains frustrated that he left before she could return to him and worried over Kendra. With a several twists including a great late shocker, fans will root for this couple to rescue their hearts as well as their lives, but No Chance for the former and little chance for the latter. No Chance you should miss this one,
This review is from: No Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
I really liked this one! I enjoy romantic suspense books, but occasionally I find some authors tip the scale too much in favor of romance and therefore it lacks in suspense. This is not the case with 'No Chance'. Reece as with all her books in the LCR (Last Chance Rescue series) managed NOT to tip the scale to heavily in either direction of romance or suspense, but instead draws a fine balance between both categories.
Each book in this series focuses and tells the story of an LCR operative. With 'No Chance' the focus falls to none other than Gabriel "Gabe" Maddox. While I've enjoyed Gabe's appearances in other LCR books, and enjoyed reading his character development in 'No Chance', I started to want to read more about the operative that Reece paired his story with. This may have been Reece's intent as this operative's story is next in the series, but I think it titled the scale slightly out of balance and out of Gabe's favor, as I couldn't wait for this operative to make an appearance on the page. I also would've liked to have read more about another character named Kendra. Though her character would be considered secondary, it played a major role in the plot of this story. In the conclusion of 'No Chance' I felt like Kendra was a lose end that needed to be tied off, and the resolution was disappointing. I can only hope her character makes an appearance again. Overall, this was a good fast paced read, and what I've come to expect of Reece. If your deciding to read 'No Chance', and haven't read the first trilogy, I'd say start there, as I'm a stickler for reading books in order. You might be thinking "well this is the first in this series,' and you'd be right of course, but you'll be better off starting with 'Rescue Me' and going from there. Don't worry 'Rescue Me' is an amazing read, and my favorite in the series to date!

After picking this book up the library, I had to buy the rest in the series! I loved the story - for a romance novel, it had a lot of "meat" to it. The characters were strongly written and complex. Strong heroine in Skylar James - she's beautiful but no wimp! And Gabe Maddox was just plain dreamy! Highly recommend this series from Cristy Reece. All I can say is...more please! Would love to have this series expanded (beyond the current 3 books) to include more of the characters working with Last Chance Rescue.

Sexy, serious Gabe Maddox takes center stage in the fourth novel of Reece's Last Chance Rescue Series. We got to know him a little bit in "Run to Me," as he assisted Shea, Ethan and Cole in the take-down of a horrid mind-controlling villain. We knew from that story that Gabe was married, but separated, and in "No Chance" we get the run down of their history when Skylar, his wife, is kidnapped and needs the LCR services.
Skylar made for an interesting character-- she's presented as the heiress to a multi-million dollar fortune. Going back in time-- she meets Gabe while on an expensive, exclusive island retreat where she escapes from the paparazzi and the glitz and glamour of her socialite life. She's daddy's little rich girl and is so beautiful- appears on the covers of magazines, models beyond that and is America's sweetheart. However, she's also presented as a real sweetheart-- she's kind, nice, intelligent, thoughtful, a good listener, humble and (ahem) a virgin. Even though this was all over-the-top to me... I found myself falling for her too. I shrugged off reality and went with the illusion as well. The real heart-throb of the story is Gabe however... ex-coal miner, ex-missionary and now, full-time LCR operative in all his tall, dark glory. When Gabe meets Skylar, he knows nothing about her. He was unjustly thrown into an African prison while on a mission and has been away from America for years. He falls for Skylar because he can relate to her and talk to her about his painful life and experiences. Together, she and Gabe find hope and peace in each other. She renews the tortured Gabe and Gabe gives something to Skylar she's never had- love free from her stereotype as a celebrity. The two, young and reckless, decide to marry. Unfortunately for these young lovers- larger forces are intent on keeping them apart. Until, that is, eight years later... Skylar finds herself in a precarious position. Long story short, Gabe Maddox is on a new mission- to save his wife. All of this happens immediately in the novel and I won't give away the plot except to say the pair find themselves on an adventure... and watching them learn each other again, renew trust and fall in love all over again while, at the same time, in the middle of a dangerous mystery was very fun and rewarding.

No Chance- A Joyfully Recommended Title,
This review is from: No Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
Eight years ago Skylar James and Gabe Maddox were married after a world wind romance. When Skylar, an internationally famous model, goes to her father to give him her good news, his anger is not what she expected. Gabe's disappearance isn't either.
Gabe is now wiser and older. Women like Skylar are a dime a dozen and finally, after much soul searching, Gabe knows that he has to somehow convince himself to no longer crave her. Before he can come to grips with his new found and hard won freedom of no longer loving Skylar, or so he tries to tell himself, Gabe finds out she has been kidnapped by a ruthless organization that sells young women overseas into white slavery. Nothing and no one is going to stop him from finding his wife - after all, he has No Chance of ever being with her again, right? I have to get this off of my chest. I officially can't stand Skylar's father. That said, let me state that No Chance is one heck of a book. It is gripping, passionate, and fast moving. I cheered for Skylar and Gabe more than I have ever cheered a couple before. They needed each other. They deserved each other. They completed each other. While others thought they shouldn't be together, I did and I rejoiced at every single touch, kiss, and embrace shared by this dynamic couple. Christy Reece's unlimited talent shines through on every page of this awesome novel. There was No Chance that I wouldn't love it and definitely No Chance that I wouldn't joyfully recommend it! Second Chance, the next in this thrilling series, releases in less than a month - I can't wait! Talia Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

I am so glad that I have found Christy Reece. I loved her first three books, and I have been desperately waiting for this one to come out. I was not disappointed. I loved how down to earth Skylar was despite her career and her money. I loved how Gabe was so vulnerable, even if I wanted to strangle him half the time. Reece does an amazing job of developing the plot, the story, and the characters, so that you don't get lost. Her writing and story pulls you into the story. I kept getting disappointed by having to stop my reading in order to go to work. I cannot wait for Cole's story. Excellant!

Fantastic romantic suspense story.,
This review is from: No Chance (Mass Market Paperback)
I've loved everything I've read by this writer so far - starting with the fantastic Rescue Me, and through the second trilogy. This is great romantic suspense - the suspense part of the story actually matters; I can't stand it when a book is marketed as romantic suspense just to turn out to be another romance story.
Gabe and Skylar are an incredible couple, and I'm so happy Gabe got a story because he was a character who desperately needed to be happy. Christy Reece's characters are tortured but human - you have to care about them. This book didn't disappoint, and I'm glad there are more in this series, because it is one of my favourites ever.

Christy Reece is one of my favourite romantic suspense writers. She has created a fictional security agency, and manages to incorporate the perfect balance of action and romance into her stories. I have been so looking forward to Gabe's story - he is a tragically troubled character who needed his own happy ending, and this was just what I wanted for him. His relationship with Skylar was beautiful and exactly what I had hoped for.
This book had me right from the beginning and didn't let me go until it was done. If you are a fan of Cindy Gerard or Pamela Clare, Christy Reece is definitely a writer you should read. |
