5.0 out of 5 stars PoG's Country Debut
I've been waiting for this album, wondering what it would be like, and I'm very pleasantly surprised.

No, this is nothing like their early work. It's nothing like anything before How You Live. With How You Live, PoG entered the country music world, and they've been edging closer to pure country since. How You Live Deluxe Edition added some secular country...

The rudder has shifted and a new course is being charted. I do not like the course and may abbandon ship. It's as if Point of Grace has sold out to the pop- country music world. To me, the excessive country twang is nauseating. What is the deal with the song "Love and Laundry?" "Put on my mascara while I drive on down the road." Come on now...... The word "pray" is in that song so I guess that counts as a religious song right?? Here are the songs I feel are worth while: He Holds Everything,There is Nothing Greater Than Grace, What About Jesus, and Come To Jesus. That is it for me. Four songs out of eleven. I miss songs like: I choose you, The entire Steady On CD, Keep the Candle Burning, and All the World. The new country sound is not for me. The group Genesis continued successfully as a trio for a while but maybe for Point of Grace, it is time to fade into the sunset.

5.0 out of 5 stars PoG's Country Debut, March 17, 2010
This review is from: No Changin' Us (Audio CD)
I've been waiting for this album, wondering what it would be like, and I'm very pleasantly surprised.

No, this is nothing like their early work. It's nothing like anything before How You Live. With How You Live, PoG entered the country music world, and they've been edging closer to pure country since. How You Live Deluxe Edition added some secular country.

Since that point, they've been very open about moving over to country, and doing country radio. They're clearly intending to continue doing Christian music, but in order to expand their base in the country arena, they'll also do things that will get on the radio. That's not only good business, but it's also a way to get their faith-based music in front of people who need to hear it.

And these songs are great. At first I wasn't too keen; they're not all what I expected. But now I'm in love with this album. I've listened to it probably 40 times since the release date.

PoG has been part of my life for years, and I'm thrilled that they will continue to be.

Sure, a couple of the songs are frivolous and silly. But the ladies are frivolous and silly, at times, too. I enjoy having them in my life in part because I love watching their silly video blogs and reading their Twitter updates and hanging out vicariously with them. I love them and I enjoy their silly songs.

No, it's not for everyone. That doesn't make it bad. It doesn't even make it not their best. It just makes it not for everyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should be renamed Everything Including Us Has Changed, June 22, 2010
This review is from: No Changin' Us (Audio CD)
Disappointing to longtime fans of POG's old style. POG has gone country and secular (or as some people like to call it "crossover"). The trademark harmonies that made POG's sound unique is gone. Also the stance on having songs with strong Christian lyrics is gone, or has been pushed to the back burner.
Rest in peace old POG.

I have everything POG has recorded (I think?), but when did they start doing "country"? Yikes! I can't find anything on this album that I want to listen to more than once. Ouch! Where did the fourth member go? The writing for 3 voices is comparably weak (compared to other vocal arrangements on earlier recordings). Highly UNimpressed and, if they continue recording music like this, this was my final POG purchase. I've YANKED it quickly from my car's CD playlist.

Purchased multiple copies of this album at the urging of a dear friend. Gifted the album to our Sunday School teachers as a simple thank you and a bit of encouragement. They reported back that it is in regular rotation in their cars as they bounce from activity to activity, a reminder of God's Love and Grace through the craziness of our lives. Specifically the songs "There is Nothing Greater Than Grace" and "Love & Laundry" touched their hearts and they struggle through the weekly labors of home and church life. Point of Grace has been sharing uplifting music for many years. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a little bit of encouragement and joy in their day. (The Sour Note: Long time listeners of Point of Grace may be hard pressed to easily recognize this as the same group. It is definitely a Country Music album. If you don't like "crossover music" or the Country Sound...choose a different POG album. Still uplifting, just different.)

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, October 15, 2010

I have all of POG albums and they have been instrumental in bringing some amazing music into my life during some hard times. I would travel for hours listening to POG and it really felt like worship. This album is more like buying a secular country music album. (even secular C.M. singers put God in their music) I liked a couple of the songs, but mostly it was more for entertainment than worship.
I am saddened by this trend with long time Worship/Singers. It seems more important to put out songs that are really good sounding, but do not lead people to meditate on God.

If you want an album that sounds great than you won't be disappointed. But if you want the ususal POG "lead me to worship" kind of music, stick with their older albums. If you want to hear a song that is life changing.... listen to "God loved the world." by Jennifer Shaw............... I hope we see more of this kind of ministry. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Stop Whining! Lighten up and Enjoy!, June 23, 2011

I became familiar with this group years ago when I found the song "Cirle of Friends". I started searching them out enjoy more of their music. No, this doesn't have some of the same harmonies, but after listening to it, you still have a smile on your face. It's uplifting and you can feel their joy. "Greatest Show on Earth" is one of my favorites. It's relatable. What mom hasn't sat and thought of her own three ring circus and still thought it was the best show in town. There are still more religous based songs like "What about Jesus" and "A good place to turn around". They aren't changing their moral outlook, only a slightly different sound. If they can reach more people by throwing in a few fun songs, than I say go for it. This is a group my kids/teens will listen to and enjoy and I'll take a good message blaring in their ear from their I-pod than a lot of other garbage any day.

I loved the album and it left me with a smile on my face, and wanting to hear more of them. So stop whining!
