One of the most powerful Christian albums ever!,
This review is from: No Compromise (Audio CD)
"No empty words and no white lies. No token prayers, no compromise."
(From "Make My Life a Prayer To You") "No Compromise" is not your normal uplifting Gospel album. It is instead a sharp, take-no-prisoners rebuke against worldliness and lackluster Christian worship. With one of the most direct lines in Christian music ("Jesus rose from the grave, and you...you can't even get out of bed!"), Keith Green brings a prophetic message of all-out dedication to Christ and a single-minded commitment to sharing the Gospel. "No Compromise" offers one of Green's signature cuts, "Make My Life a Prayer To You" (which my wife and I used in our marriage ceremony). His "Dear John Letter (To the Devil)" is a funny ditty with a pretty cool guitar solo. And "I Don't Wanna Fall Away From You" should be the cry of every true Christian. His most convicting moments begin with the amazing "Asleep in the Light" - a song that radically changed my perspective on what it meant to be a Christian. "To Obey Is Better Than Sacrifice" continues the motif of single-hearted commitment to God. The final track, "Altar Call", would end many of Green's concerts as a call to follow the narrow road and accept Christ as Lord and Savior. Though "For Him Who Has Ears To Hear" may be Green's finest moment, "No Compromise" stands alone as one of the most necessary works in contemporary Christian music. Do yourself a favor and allow the late Keith Green to lead you on the journey of sold-out dedication to Christ.

If only more Christian music was this powerful...,

Too much Christian music today is fluff. This album is anything but that. Keith Green wrote some remarkable songs that encourage Christians to wake up and act like what they say they are.
In addition to powerful lyrics, this album has some great music played by Bill Maxwell, Abraham Laboriel, Keith Green himself, and others.

Keith Green Classic Album,

This is one of those albums I have heard since I was a child. The songs sound like home and Keith Green is at the top of his game. The songs represent the Christian walk and faith without compromise. Keith Green didn't write music to sugarcoat faith. Songs like "Alter Call," Soften Your Heart," and "My Eyes Are Dry" were about what we face everyday and what organized religion often overlooks.
I have always believe that Ben Folds reminds me of Keith Green. No where is this more evident than in the quirky "Dear John Letter (To the Devil)." Green gave everything he had on every song and this album stands the test of time. Keith Green's death in the early 80's was a blow for Christian music, but his work lives on.

I would say 'So you wanna go back to Egypt' and 'Songs for the Shepherd' are equally impressive, but this one is his best and like a fine wine, you'll put it on when needing some encouragement and discipline. God bless, make your life a prayer to Jesus...

Keith Green / No Compromise: This is not as great an album as "For him who has ears to hear", but it is still a very good album. An enjoyable listen. Four Stars

Good Music, Period,

Keith Green wrote and performed contemporary gospel music. His songs have tend to have a *soft rock* sound, typical for the era in which he wrote (the 70's). Some obvious resemblances include Billy Joel and Cat Stevens. Green was also an accomplished keyboard player, and all round musician. That is what makes these songs worth listening to even if you do not share his particular Christian message.
Some of these songs are very powerful (and critical) letters written to the Christian community. Also, the way he changes tempo and keys keeps the songs fresh sounding. This is one of my favorite albums from the 70's. Like much of the music from that era, some of it (especially the *earnestness* with which he sings) has not aged particularly well, but still is musically interesting.

Still the most challenging and influencial Christian album,

Few albums have made the impact of this classic. In it Mr. Green brings his incredible talent to bear down on every Christian's tendency to let his love grow cold. God will have none of that. Mr. Green calls us to wake up with "Asleep in the Light" and "To Obey is Better than Sacrifice." He brings us to rousing, foot-stomping, dancing worship with "Stained Glass" and "The Victor." There is not a dry-eyed track or a week song in this album - every one of them is a classic. That can be said of few albums, Christian or otherwise. This album is destined to remain on the list of most influencial Christian albums for years to come.

Good Music But Not As Happy As I Thought...,

I really love Keith Green's album "For Him Who Has Ears to Hear". It is one of the greatest CCM albums ever. I decided to buy this album because I had read lots of positive reviews about it. Well, I would have bought it maybe anyway.
This album has some very good songs, like "How Can They Live Without Jesus?" and "Dear John Letter (to the Devil)". Still, the album seems to suffer from the fact that there's too many ballads. I would say that about half of them are ballads. Although they are good ballads, apart from the second track "Make My Life a Prayer to You", I would say that this album sounds too plain. There's not enough that good old rock'n roll that was in Keith's "For Him...". Also the lyrics seems to suffer from the fact that they are very negative. The lyrics are however quite different from other CCM artists, at least they were at that time in 70's. Still, I like this album quite much. It's not his best but although a great album. Stars: Dear John Letter (to the Devil), To Obey Is Better Than Sacrifice, How Can They Live Without Jesus? |
