beautiful music,
This review is from: No Danger (Audio CD)
inouk is an amazing band. having followed them for a few years, it is a pleasure to know their music is available to a wide audience at last, and that that they are gaining recognition for their vast talents. if you browse any inouk review, you will invariably dance through a list of comparisons and influences in an effort to pin them down - roxy music, dylan, etc, but i think it is most appropriate to say they've earned their own place with their original music.'no danger' features dreamy and epic melodies, sophisticated harmonies, song structures that seem to follow swooning hearts and streams of consciousness. it is an exciting ride, and i'm deeply moved at special moments in 'somewhere in france', 'search for the bees', and 'father's house'. inouk rocks the stage, too. i saw them perform in NYC last year, and i'm still savoring that experience -an alluring, surprising, focused, and beautiful band. take advantage of any and every opportunity to enjoy something as unique and wonderful as this music.

This album is really fantastic. There's a wide variety of stylist influences, creating a truly unique listening experience. Not one song on the album disappoints. It takes several repeated listens to really get the scope of any one track - the songwriting and instrumentation is interesting and engaging. Any music fan sick of the same old pop garbage should pick this album up.

Inouk is a very new band. They started playing recent in New York and they have become the other band's favorite. They released an EP a few months ago. That was impressive enough. Now they get a full CD to explore their genre-defying sound. Brothers Damon and Alexander McMahon front them. They seem entirely fresh. At the same time they seem like they are working in the same anti-fashionable mode as Ambulance LTD and Calla. This record needs to be listened to again and again. Songs like "Father's House" and "Search For The Bees" explore new areas of songwriting. Live they are one of the best new bands. They are an assault on generic music. They are a surprise for those who are tired of all the cool bands that wear sunglasses and smoke cigarettes and listen to all the same cool bands. Inouk is a challenge to the listener.

One can expect great music from this band. As a humble first album, No Danger nonetheless will remind the eclectic of a wide swath of their favorite bands, old and new, as their influences are many. But it is hardly eclectic, leaving one with a coherent feeling of reliving the 60s they never experienced. A wintertime dipping into bygone summery feelings, with soaring inspired harmonies. And this isn't even how they're supposed to sound - stay around, fockers.
