Book Description

November 1987 Landmark Series
Two female agents of Operation Cream Cake - double agents and honey traps against the KGB - are murdered. Bond must find the others and conduct them to safety before they meet a similar fate. In a race against time, Bond travels to Ireland and the KGB is soon on the scene. But all is not as it seems and soon Bond finds he needs all his wits to negotiate a labyrinth of double-crossing that is to lead him to a bewildering showdown in a remote corner of the Kowloon province of Hong Kong, where, weaponless, he is hunted by four assassins. No Deals, Mr. Bond is the sixth in the bestselling series created by John Gardner, and one of the most original and unpredictable.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this latest James Bond caper, there's still more attention paid to pain than to sexual delights, though rather less of both than heretofore, lethal toys are very much in evidence, and the plot is, of course, smoothly preposterous. Which is to say that Bond fans will not be disappointed. Bond is called by M to save the lives of the remnants of "Cream Cake," a defunct sexual-entrapment operation in East Germany. Two young women with British "identities" have been killed and their tongues cut out, the work of the KGB, the GRU or the East Germans. Half the characters seem to be involved in betraying the other half, since "Cream Cake" was apparently "blown" from the beginning. Bond is unsure of whom to trust, and his chief job, after staying alive, is to uncover the prime traitor. Ireland and Hong Kong supply rather desultory color. Fans of long duration will be pleased that the head villain is Gen. Chernov, ex-boss of SMERSH, who pits four killers against Bond in the final combat. Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club alternates.

From Library Journal

The Russians have sent a GRU hit team to the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland to locate and eliminate several former British spies whose identities have been altered to protect them from Soviet reprisals. The assassins have already located and murdered one of the former agents when James Bond is given the assignment to find and protect the remaining three. Without official backing Bond battles an army of killers in a hide-and-seek chase from Dublin to Hong Kong. This is Gardner's sixth James Bond spy thriller and one that absolutely shouldn't be missed. The action is superb and 007 is, as always, in peak form. Never a dull moment is an understatement for this fast moving series of explosive chapters. Highly recommended for all popular fiction collections. Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club alternates.Brian Alley, Sangamon State Univ. Lib., Springfield, Ill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bond at his best., March 9, 2001
SMERSH is back in this intigue packed adventure that has Bond running from Ireland to Hong Kong. However, The Bond girl is ditzy and not as interesting as most of the women he usually shacks up with.

This review is from: No Deals Mr Bond (Paperback)
This wasn't a bad Bond book. Actually, it was pretty good. I was pleased to see that it was like "The Most Dangerous Game." I suggest that you read the book, b/c it was a good read. I also liked the char. of Q'ute. *LMAO*

5.0 out of 5 stars JAMES BOND IS BACK IN HIS DEADIEST ASSIGNMENT EVER!!!, August 8, 1999
No Deals, Mr.Bond has action and love. The bad guy Kolya Chernov a.k.a. Blackfriar is a mad man you cut out tongues in this story. I can't tell you anymore details but if you buy this book you would never want to put it down.
