So Many Lies and Learning To Trust, April 13, 2001
This review is from: No Decent Gentleman (Mass Market Paperback)
Sabrina is a woman who has just lost her adoptive father to a suicide. She is deeply distraut and will do anything to clear her father's name of the stigma of suicide. Adam comes onto the scene during the burial and from there it is just one lie after another. Adam and Sabrina were betrothed when Sabrina was little more than in infant and now that her father is dead he is here to take control of her and her assets. Well, Sabrina is not going to stand for that. She lets Adam know exactly what she thinks about that!!! (A girl after my own heart) Sabrina has a tendency to bake when she is upset, which is quite a lot, and I loved this little quirky side to her. Sabrina eventually manages to persuade Adam to help her clear her father's name. What ensues is a funny, fast paced, and romantic story. I liked this book and found it very easy to read. I did think that Sabrina was a little dense at times and the "plot" to capture the villian could have taken a few more twists and turns. But all in all, it was a delightful story to read.

Delightful!, February 26, 1999

This review is from: No Decent Gentleman (Mass Market Paperback)
Sabrina Savage is positive her father did not commit suicide. It had been murder. However, no one would believe her. That was when Adam St. Aubyn, Marquess of Stonehurst arrived. He helped Sabrina toll the bell for her beloved father, and vowed to help her find the murderer. Sabrina thought Adam a gift from above until she found out that she had been pledged to Adam since she was three. Adam agreed to give Sabrina and her sister a season in London. If Sabrina had not found someone she wished to marry who Adam deemed acceptable, she would marry him. ***No one in this story is who they appear to be. There are so many secrets it could make one dizzy. I loved it for that very reason! Every time a surprise came up and I finally accepted it, another would spring. Delightful!***

Standard stuff, amusing enough, February 12, 2003
This review is from: No Decent Gentleman (Mass Market Paperback)
The book opens with the death ruled as being suicide of Sabrina Savages adopted father. Sabrina and her sister are attempting to get their father an honourable burial, but are being thwarted by both their parish priest and their good friend. Adam, Marquess of Stonehurst proves himself a saviour when he arrives and helps Sabrina toll the bell for her father. The two have not met before, but it emerges that Adam was on his way to meet with the Savage family. Further, that their families have long arranged the betrothal of the two. Drawn to Adam, Sabrina nonetheless vows not to marry until her fathers death is proven to be the murder she and her sister know that it must be. Further, she will marry Adam only if she cannot find a more suitable fiancé among Londons ton. Adam knows she will not, and agrees to her conditions. But Adam is not entirely what he seems. Sabrina hates lies, but it seems that all those about her are lying in some way or another (except for her sister) and she has to sort through the lies, find the villain and establish her fathers good name before she can forgive and find happiness with her new husband. This is a standard enough Regency romance / murder mystery with enough of each to keep readers of each genre happy I should think. There are some interesting twists (Sabrinas birth father) although conversely there is also much that is predictable (her birth mother). Sabrina is a good Regency character, with her manic baking spells and good humour. Its not a book to hold you spellbound from start to finish, but is nonetheless a good way to spend a couple of hours.

One of the best books I've ever read., December 19, 1999

This review is from: No Decent Gentleman (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a terrific book with a great plot and great characters. Sabrina is a strong couragous woman, but falls for Adam, a dark, mysterious handsome man. She doesn't admit it but they end up together. Discover all the dark secrets and the secrets around her father's murder. Excellent book and highly recomended. If you don't like romance novels, this is still a good regency-romance-mystery book. Get it now!

I enjoyed this book very much. I really liked reading about Sabrina and Adam. I would like to know if there was a book published before this one that was about Jamie Armstrong and his wife Lily.

A total bore, June 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: No Decent Gentleman (Mass Market Paperback)
Take a pathological liar of a hero, mix in a silly, spineless ninnyhammer of a dumb heroine and you get a totally ridiculous story complete with religious inaccuracies and awkward prose. The bonus one star is for the magic gingerbread man, which somehow managed to get done without using the oven. Now that is funny!
