Right Band To Cover Eye Of The Tiger,
By susumu-5 (Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Escape (+2 Bonus Tracks) (Audio CD)
At Vance is a new band from Germany now one of the strongholds of excellent hard rockers. German bands such as Fair Warning and Bonfire have already captured Japanese rock fans' heart. At Vance is formed by Olaf Lenk, a talented guitarist who made excellent guitar performance in two Centers albums. Yngswei Malmsteen was his guitar god when he was young. Naturally this album is based on metal music with classical music flavor at which the bands like Yngswei Malmsteen or recently Stratovarius are great. In my opinion they are venturing into something more than what their predecessors did. They are seeking metal music with mass appeal in a different way from Survivor in the early 80s. Their choices for cover songs speak for itself. Money Money Money is a cover track of Abba, queen of pop rock during the late 70s. Survivor made heavy metal a household word by a mega hit Eye of The Tiger. Vivaldi is one of our favorite classical music composers(particularly Four Season). Their original music is great as well. All For One And One For All is a great uptempo rock track with the great hit potential. Lost in Your Eyes is a great ballad which might easily pop up to Billboard Top 10. Power and Glory is a fitting word to express now thriving German rock. Last track Shout is Tears for Fears hit but with drastic conversion to metal music. Eye of The Tiger one of the highlight of this album starts like Def Leppard-like intro with additional With the eye of the tiger chorus at the end-- not a bad one for me, long time Survivor fan. It is the second greatest rock releases so far in 2000. Rock fans who like Yngswei Malmsteen, Stratovarious or Lana Lane will sure to enjoy this album. Also recommended for wide variety of rock fans particularly for those who prefer Too Hot To Sleep/Premonition to When Seconds Count, Aerosmith,Dokken, Def Leppard and Metallica fans. Chicago,Journey and Don Henry fans may be wise to listen to the soundbytes before buying. It sounds so fresh so fitting to jump-start a new era of rock history.
