First of all, let me make it perfectly clear that I am a lesbian, gay, homosexual, whichever term you wish to put on my "lifestyle." I have been active and open in my sexual preference since the age of 15, but didn’t really realize the social and religious complications that my being a lesbian would cause in my relationships with my family, friends, and especially, the clergy and church.
As a teenager it was assumed that I was experimenting in the gay lifestyle because of my rebellious nature and because of my curiosity. That misconception was the "excuse" my family, friends and church used when others asked about my lifestyle.
