Sabato has got the perfect mindset, attitude, and desire to build a great body and maintain a lasting healthy lifestyle. His words are inspiring to say the least. His workout is tough and not for beginners. Consider his workout if you are burnt-out with your current routine. If you looking to build mass, this workout is probably not for you. I'M NOT INTO BOOKS ABOUT FITNESS, BUT I WAS INTRIGUED ABOUT ANTONIO AND HOW HE TRANSFORMED HIS BODY FROM THE EARLY DAYS WHEN HE WAS APPEARING IN JANET JACKSON MUSIC VIDEOS. I HAVE A SIMILAR BUILD, HAVE BEEN WORKING OUT FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND WANTED TO FINE TUNE AND SCULP MY BODY BECAUSE I LIKED HIS LOOK. AFTER READING THE BOOK, IT ALL MADE SENSE. THE PHILOSOPHY ABOUT HOW YOUR ATTITUDE SHOULD BE IN THE GYM, ALONG WITH THE SUPERSET AND THE NUITRITION INFORMATION. I COULD SEE IN ONLY ONE WEEK VERY NOTICEABLE RESULTS. I HAVE LENT IT TO MY WORKOUT PARTNER SO THAT HE CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN WHEN I APPROACH HIM ABOUT CHANGING THE WAY WE WORK OUT. I HAVE CUT MY WORKOUT TIME IN HALF WITH IMPROVED RESULTS. GONE ARE THE MINUTES OF WASTED TIME, RESTING BETWEEN SETS, WAITING FOR MACHINES AND LOGGING INFORMATION ON NOTEPADS THAT DON'T MEAN ANYTHING. LIKE THE BOOK SAYS, "DON'T STOP TO VISIT WITH PEOPLE, DON'T STOP TO WRITE IN NOTEBOOKS, IF YOU HAVE TIME TO DO THIS, YOU ARE NOT WORKING OUT" YOU ARE WASTING TIME. THIS BOOK MAKES PERFECT SENSE. THE CONCEPTS ARE SIMPLE TO FOLLOW AND UNDERSTAND. IT WILL REMAIN A PART OF MY FITNESS PROGRAM FOR YEARS AND YEARS TO COME.

5.0 out of 5 stars Building a Muscular Physique without using extreme measures, July 22, 2000
This review is from: No Excuses: Antonio Sabato Jr. Workout For Life (Paperback)
There are loads of bodybuilding books out there. And to some, the price of this book may be on the high side. So, why Antonio Sabato's Workout For Life?

Here's why. The physique achieved by Antonio is no mean feat. This book shows you how you can build a great physique by being moderate and commonsensical; without resorting to pills, supplements and fancy diets; and without lifting weights which may be too heavy for your own good.

It's refreshing how Antonio departs from the usual oft-cited bodybuilding "wisdom" out there. Conventional bodybuilding techniques teach you to use heavy weights and to have rests in between these heavy sets. However, using heavy weights do not necessarily translate into muscles. Antonio believes in using intensity to build muscles - that means using lighter weights but moving quickly from set to set and without excessive rest. If you have trouble lifting the weights, then it is too heavy for your body, and you should use lighter weights, says Antonio.

What I was impressed by was the fact that Antonio achieved his physique without resorting to any fancy diet, supplement or pill.

Antonio also believes in keeping in shape all year round. So there is no such thing as an "off-season" to him and neither is there a need for him to "get in shape again". The mental attitude adopted by him is truly inspiring. Antonio helps you to rid yourself of all excuses to get yourself in shape.

All I have said so far is already worth half the price of the book. The photos in this book are worth the other half. There are lots of photographs of Antonio Sabato Junior's great physique and him in action working out.

If you like to get in shape but don't know how, I recommend that you get this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars On target!, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: No Excuses: Antonio Sabato Jr. Workout For Life (Paperback)
This book is informative, interesting, and provides solid information. As a middle aged man, I could have done without all the "cheesecake" photos. However, he provides a unique way of workouts. I have done this for a couple of weeks and the workouts are tough. I end up lifting weights less poudage wise, but seem to be getting better results due to the intensity. For people who have been active, this book is ideal.

On the negative side, Sabato makes you figure out which body exercises to do. I would have preferred seeing sample sets for given days. Also, the book is expensive for 144 pages. Had it been less or if Amazon would provide a bigger discount (and beat their competitors-hint!) I would have rated it 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supersets? No Excuses for not explaining this concept clearly., February 6, 2006

I loved the design and the content of the book as well as the philosophy behind the book. The salient points from the book can be summed up as follows:

* Stresses on the benefits of SUPERSETS. This is the cornerstone of the book.

* Working out should be a lifestyle and not just a passing fad. We should workout throughout the year (and our lives) not for vanity's sake (and he's a model cum actor) but for health reasons.

* The workout plan presented is not rigid and can be tailored accordingly.

* He dispels the myth that cardio and weight/strength/resistance training should be performed separately. His suggested workout plan encompasses both aspects in a compact one hour session.

* Stresses that symmetry is important and should not be ignored. Most muscles have an equal and opposite muscle which should be worked too.

* Gives due credit to his trainer.

* Preaches the message of steroid/supplement free lifestyle.

This brings me to the point that super-setting is the cornerstone of this book yet it is not adequately explained.

For example, is Sabato's definition of super-setting:

1) I do lat-pulldown immediately followed by bench press done thrice in a row is 3 supersets?

2) I do lat-pulldown (3 sets) followed immediately by bench press (3 sets) is 3 supersets?

I have a gut feeling that it is option 1 but I am unsure. Even though the book is excellent but there are "No Excuses" for not defining the concept of supersets properly.

3.0 out of 5 stars This workout may work good for you - it may not...., April 13, 2000

Sabato's workout consists of non-stop sets, and barely any time to recover from one exercise to another. Mass-builders will desire heavier weights and longer recovery periods. Sabato indicates that he prefers a lean, muscular build as opposed to a large, heavier build. If you feel the same, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Workout, July 11, 2002
By
I have been following this workout for about a month now, and it is amazing. If anyone thinks that this isn't an effective workout, then they haven't tried it. I have tried many other workout regimens and this is truly the most intense. The results that anyone will enjoy come very quickly. If you are sick and tired of toying around with different workouts, get this book and the guesswork is over. It is the best way to build a body that is ready for anything that you are ready to throw at it. The nutritional advice also proves that you don't have to be a nutritionist to support a healthy body. Read it, try it, and you will understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, motivating workout book, October 28, 2001
By
This review is from: No Excuses: Antonio Sabato Jr. Workout For Life (Paperback)
I originally bought this book for a girl who had a crush on Mr. Sabato, but I found the book so interesting and motivating, I had to keep it.

Antonio goes into the benefits of supersetting, without resting between sets. This gives a really lean look. If you want to look like those models on Men's Health magazine (definition, symmetry, toned muscle), this workout is for you. It is also very beneficial for people who do not like cardio workouts (I get bored on the treadmill). By supersetting the exercises, you take care of the cardio while building muscle.

I have one suggestion, and I am surprised the book doesn't go into this. When starting the workout, you should focus on just going through the routine of supersets, and not so much intensity. After your body builds up the endurance and gets used to the workout, you can then go for higher intensity on each set. Trying to go through this workout head on will be too exhausting and discourage you from continuing, like it did with me.

1.0 out of 5 stars All style no substance., November 7, 1999
By
This review is from: No Excuses: Antonio Sabato Jr. Workout For Life (Paperback)
I first read about this book in Mens Fitness so I decided to check it out. Big mistake. The Mens Fitness article is just as informative as the book. If you want a photo album of Mr. Sabato then this is your book. If you're looking for a great fitness book with workouts, nutrition and some depth, then look elsewhere. While the advice on using supersets is good, it's not nearly enough to carry an entire book. This book is very vague and a very big disappointment. Antonio's trainer, Joe, has been around for a while and possess great knowledge about training. It's a huge disservice that the book only scratches the surface of this man and working out. Mr. Sabato seems genuinely passionate about fitness but doesn't go into detail about anything. He literally states "I'm not going to make it easy for you" right before is vague workout description. Thanks Mr. Sabato for not making it easy for me, I only paid $25 for your book. His no nonsense approach is to be commended but I wish the reader was given more than pretty pictures. I should have known by reading the previous reviews the book was more a photographic tribute to Mr. Sabato than about working out. I give it one star because it made me implement super sets into my training. Do not believe the other "customer" reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book if your serious about getting in shape, April 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: No Excuses: Antonio Sabato Jr. Workout For Life (Paperback)
No Excuses takes a no holds barred approach to working out. As a previous reviewer has stated, the book is more suited for those already engaged in some form of training. The reason for this is Mr. Sabato believes in working out non-stop which equals a really tuff workout.

The book itself is very motivational and inspirational. Also, the book is filled with quality pictures showing you exactally how to do something. One of the things I noticed most is that Antonio doesn't use free weights alot, but instead prefers machines. What I got most out of Antonio's book is his training methodology and dedication.

No Excuses doesnt show you anything you most likely havne't seen before. However, the motivation factor and his mind-sets alone make it worth it. I would recommend it to anyone serious about training and want to fine tune there physique.
