A Good, Positive Book,

This review is from: No Excuses!: How What You Say Can Get In Your Way (Hardcover)
I read this with my son and we both enjoyed it.
This book tells a story about a boy who wants to become a marine biologist. When he tells people in his life what he wants to do they tell him discouraging things until he looses that spark and gives up on his dream. The book shows how he worked though the EXCUSES and followed his dream. Maybe it's my simple mind but I sometimes feel I get just as much out of these children's book as I do the longer verson for adults.

Wonderful, Heartwarming, Powerful Lesson for My Kids and Yours!,

This review is from: No Excuses!: How What You Say Can Get In Your Way (Hardcover)
I loved this for my kids; it is for 4 -8 year olds. It explains that excuses are made by our own decision and limit what we achieve when we can really achieve what we set our minds to. It teaches, through a story of a child who has a passion for sea turtles and a marine biology career, that even when we are told by others we look up to (teachers, grandpa, parents...) that what we want is "wrong" or "too hard" or whatever, we are the only ones who decide what we can do or not. And, even better, it points out what us parents do know, which is that people all around us say this or that but really, when a person (our child...) does what they love and follow their dreams, others that care for them come around to see their point and their abilities that they were not seeing before. This book is so great to share these ideas with my children and I am hopeful that it will be a game changer, one of the things that helps my kids to really understand that they are not limited and they can have and do what they desire. Simply wonderful. And not a long book. It has a method, based on Dr. Dyers adult book "Excuses be Gone", where the kids can learn to question their excuses too, to reduce their power over them, and help them to get beyond excuses.
Also, as a parent, you have got to read Effortless Wellbeing: The Missing Ingredients for Authentic Wellness. I have been seeing people carrying this book and recommending it, and there is a great reason. It is absolutely amazing and will transform your life in general and as a parent. I can't tell you how powerful this book has been in my life.

I purchased this book to share with my grandson. Of course we all know that little ones need guidance and everyone benefits from Wayne Dyer's words. After reading and discussing this book we were in his backyard running around their pool. I said I am too old to run any more when he exclaimed "Grammy, no excuses, you can do it!" So, who learned from the book and applied their learning?

Simple for a child to understand, this book let's a child know that his dreams and visions are possible to achieve. Good for adults as well.

I just LOVE this book. I've been trying to work with my son on his rather negative, defeatist attitude and it's been tough to capture his attention. Reading this book with him has put the whole subject in a whole new light and we now regularly talk about "Is that an excuse?" and he know what I'm talking about and can rethink his reaction. It's really made a difference for him.

A message children really understand!,

No Excuses! really does speak to children. As an adult, I am excited about Dr. Dyer's Excuses Begone!: How to Change Lifelong, Self-Defeating Thinking Habits program. I wasn't sure how my six-year-old daughter would receive his message, and I am pleasantly surprised. In the book, the illustrations are brightly-colored and eye-catching. The words are easy to understand and powerful. At the end of the book is a list of sentences and a quiz: Is the sentence an excuse or not an excuse? My daughter answered all but one correctly the first time she took the test. She did undrestand!!
This is a book that will stay in our library for many years to come. As much as my daughter will enjoy it, reading it with her will give me additional chances to absorb Wayne Dyer's message!

Boring and Ridiculous Book,

This review is from: No Excuses!: How What You Say Can Get In Your Way (Hardcover)
I am an elementary school counselor and had planned on using this for a lesson. Soooooooooooo disappointed when I purchased this book. The boy is on a journey to become a marine biologist, and many people give him reasons why he shouldn't be. His teacher told him that a marine biologist must be smart and that science really isn't his strength. His grandfather told him that everyone in the family grows up to be farmers. What?! The writing was so flat and boring, and I would be embarrased to read this to my students - especially since it includes the negative bit about the teacher. There are MUCH better ways to relate the importance of positive thinking. What a total waste of my money.

The kids have loved it. Sunday school and elementary school kids I have shared this were excited to hear this. WIll they remember it? What will be the results? Guess we need to leave that in others hands. I found it worthwhile to see several students beam after seeing and reading the story. Even one teenager found it so exciting... she told me that she will quit listening to the 'stupid teachers' and keep her goals now. School can be a big let down. Highly recommended and parents, you might get something out of it too.

Wonderful Message,
This review is from: No Excuses!: How What You Say Can Get In Your Way (Hardcover)
We received this book as a gift from a dear friend. Our children are 2 and 5 years old. The message this book delivers is truly invaluable. I am thrilled to start reading this to them at such young ages as I am hoping the meanings will become ingrained within them for life. Dr. Wayne Dyer expresses the truth that no one can control your actions and decisions but YOU. Such a great thing to teach children. Our oldest daughter is already referencing the book when she makes decisions asking things such as "am I making an excuse?" I plan to purchase this book for my nieces and other friends. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
