More About the Author

Gidday and thanks for dropping in.

I'm the Australian author of The Longest Winter, Fool's Gold, The Site, No Exit, The Diamond Factory, Beyond Laughter, An Absence of Angels, Kizzy, The Edge of Nowhere, A Tear of Blood, One Act of Kindness and Anything for Love. I have been traditionally published in Australia, USA, UK, Germany and France, and early in my 'career' I won a major fiction prize. I've also been semi-finalist, twice, in the Best Kindle Book competitions of 2012 with No Exit and in 2014 with The Longest Winter.

My writing is a mix of historical, thrillers, romantic suspense and human dramas. I guess I could say I write something for everyone.

I live in a small country town on the Darling Downs in Queensland, Australia with my man, two big dogs, one cat, five goldfish, four chooks and six cockatiels. Go to for more information.

A selection of comments on Julie's stories include:

"The Longest Winter is the best book I have ever read!!! I love your books!!!

Julie, I am 70 years old and I read 3-4 books a week. "The Longest Winter" is by far the best I have EVER read ... a great pleasure to read and true literary treasure.

I am a Swiss geography teacher and I will recommend your book to my students.

A wonderful story so incredibly written that I could see each scene unfolding. It was like watching a movie. I can't wait to read all your other books.

I almost took a vacation day just so I could read No Exit. I could not wait to finish reading. Julie Harris has found a fan in me.

Julie Harris did it again. I loved her mix of paranormal and mystery in A Tear of Blood and she didn't disappoint with No Exit.

Julie, I just read The Site. Great book. Thanks and keep up the good work.

A Tear of Blood kept me guessing. There were twists and turns throughout the plot that kept me on my toes and my nose in the book.

I really hope that the author turns it into a series."

This book has all the ingredients of a thriller that you can't put down but yet has a depth that appeals to your soft side.

Right from the beginning you are reeled in. So gently that you don't realize that you are hooked until you try to take a break from reading it!!

For me, the sentence on the first page, reading

"Ben and Jenny Miller were practical people and neither were especially gifted, so what profound twist of fate delivered unto them a child who knew far too much of pasts, presents and futures?" was the hook that landed me and there was no letting up.

Fabulous writing, great plot, true to the high caliber story telling that is expected of Julie Harris. Can't recommend it enough!

Julie Harris has successfully given us a fictional supernatural-thriller interwoven with a love story that will play on your heart and keep you speculating at every turn. This story is captivating and beautifully written with characters that will keep you engaged throughout.

Rebecca Miller is a gifted and highly sought after psychic who can achieve miraculous healing with the touch of her hands. Although she is wanted for her gifts she is very lonely and longs for someone to notice her for who she is not what she can do.

Commander Kelly Nolan is a Navy SEAL and has been painting portraits of Rebecca for the last 15 years though they have never met. Nolan has psychic ability of his own and a connection with Rebecca that is undeniable.

I found myself involved in this story from the start. The characters were dynamic and thought provoking. The dialogue is realistic and written with compassion and attention to detail. The story contains multiple sub-plots and is presented as a wonderfully interconnected tale involving a definite sense of spirituality and morals that is totally relatable. The suspense and mystery will pull you into the story and you will find this book hard to put down.

This fascinating story will appeal to readers of all genres and I highly recommend it.

No Exit by Julie Harris focuses on the story of Rebecca Miller, who happens to be one of the most gifted psychics this world has ever seen. Not only can she occassionally read minds, she also predicts future events, sees glimpses of people's past and has a connection with an Angel guide named Emmanuel. She can heal the injured, wounded and even the dying. In one instance, she even manages to return from death herself. But naturally, all these gifts come with a very high price. Her own father is afraid of her and has been ignoring her for years. Everyone she meets is interested in what she can do - not in who she really is. She has never gotten any further than a first date with anyone - and she's already thirty years old. People are lining up to talk to her, but the only true friend she has is her assistant, Annie.

All of that changes, initially for the worst, when she is stopped at the airport in England by a bunch of Nighthawks, a special elite group of soldiers. Two years prior, Rebecca gave a reading to Elizabeth Glover, wife of senator Glover who is now running for president. In that meeting she warned Elizabeth about a possible attack on John Glover's life. Now, it seems as if her offered advice comes back to kick her in the back. The special Nighthawke forces want to know what's going on, when the senator's life will be in danger and how they can stop it. To do that, Rebecca will have to tell them all she can.

Unfortunately, on the way to the helicopter, Rebecca gets shot. Straight through her heart. She dies on the spot. Miraculously enough, she comes back to live an hour and a half later, after consulting with her celestial guide and claiming she still has some work to finish on earth.

No Exit hooked me on the first page and never let go. I stayed up reading until I couldn't focus anymore. I loved Rebecca and Kelly, but the others, Mac, Steve, Mitch . . . they drew me right in. I laughed and cried with them all. A really good story (even if the woman from Georgia sounded a bit strange :-)

Compulsively skeptical in my selection of literary fiction, NO EXIT was a departure from my usual reading venue. But in this case, the title intrigued me. NO EXIT could only conclude in an ill-fated dream of doomed hopes or the triumph of imagination and courage.

The heroine is a gifted psychic. The story involves an attempt to assassinate a prominent character protected by a detail of military characters, a few of whom represent an American contingent. My prejudices disinclined me to believe that a woman author from halfway around the world might be able to stir such ingredients and bring the resulting soup to the level of delicious credibility. I'm happy to report that she did just that.

In another author's hands, the story may have become a cliché about today's ubiquitous assassination attempts and the improbable romantic chemistry between two individuals drawn into the crisis. But this author not only knew her way around a sentence but was able to string these tight sentences into a string of suspenseful and clever themes, woven together into an intriguing fabric that was impossible to set aside.

I am told that at the heart of creativity is surprise. That quality is in abundance in this story. The suspenseful nature of the story was especially attractive for me in that it reminded me of some the magnetic and cleverly paced visual gifts of Alfred Hitchcock. The story showed what it needed (no more than that, leaving excellent spaces), rather than told.

Having been a teacher of Creative Writing and English some time ago, I'm a harsh critic of literature. But I am compelled to give this book five stars. I rolled the dice on this author's book, and I'm pleased to say that I was delighted with the satisfying results.
