Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3?Probability as it relates to fairness is the theme of this easy reader. As David and Kristy play, several issues of equity arise. Who gets to choose the game? Do both have an equal shot at winning checkers if a piece is missing? Introducing the topic through games is appropriate, as children in this age group are very sensitive to fairness. Written in the style of a theatrical play for two readers, the format may hinder comprehension for those solo readers who haven't yet been exposed to plays. The story is contrived and does not stand on its own. Simple, unexceptional illustrations support the text, and educationally sound activities logically extend the concepts in the story. This book may serve as a useful tool for parents who wish to discuss mathematical ideas with their children, but it is not a first purchase.?Sharon R. Pearce, San Antonio Public Library, TX

This review is from: No Fair! (level 2) (Hello Reader) (Paperback)
My daughter (grade K) loves reading this book with us. The story features a boy and girl who are playing together. The author has written it in a play format, and we take turns reading the parts of the boy, girl, and Mom. There are some great thought provoking questions following the story encouring logical thinking about what really is fair. A great way to teach math!
