This review is from: No Fairy Godmothers No Magic Wands: The Healing Process After Rape (Paperback)
i read the 1984 edition of this book. i think the book is a good start, and i hope the 1994 edition addresses some of the earlier version's shortcomings. the book is written in simple language and devotes a section to helpers of rape survivors, which i found helpful. i would like to have seen more of an emphasis on this, as well as more information on the statistics of sexual assault and its sequelae. also helpful was the way the author walked through the various stages of healing from sexual assault. this included information on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors one might expect, which can help the rape survivor understand her reactions. the fact that the book was written through the eyes of a survivor was particularly helpful in understanding the process that women go through and how to be helpful after such an awful event.
