No fuss Diabetic Recipes for 1 or 2,
By charlotte kilburn (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No-Fuss Diabetes Recipes for 1 or 2: 125 Healthy & Delicious Meals and Desserts (Paperback)
This is an excellent book of recipes that taste so good and are easy to make for diabetics and others. The authors are registered dietitians and a nutrient analysis is provided for each of the recipes. I bought the book for my mother-in-law who is diabetic and decided to keep it myself because the recipes are so good and so easy. It also has a section to help diabetics with planning their meals to meet their meal plan. I am a second year dietetic intern who will definitely recommend this book for my clients when I begin practicing in May 2000.

I am so pleased to have found this book. Type II runs in our family, and I'm trying to prevent it, by being careful about carbs, and balancing them with protein. All the balancing work is done for you. Great to find a cookbook with easy recipes that taste good, and you won't have to eat it all week! It was just what I had been looking for. I've only had it a few days, and have already tried several recipes. And these easy recipes make you realize how easy it could be to create your own variations. As a singleton, I'm glad things serve one or two, and it gives me a better idea of what a right-sized portion should be.

high-carb/low-fat,
By Type 2 Reader (Littleton, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No-Fuss Diabetes Recipes for 1 or 2: 125 Healthy & Delicious Meals and Desserts (Paperback)
There seems to be two camps developing in the type 2comunity, those who follow the traditional ADA high-carb and low-fat way-of-life and those who follow the low-carb, higher protein/fat way. This book is in the high-carb group. Since I'm keeping my BG's 2hrs post meal near the pre-meal targets (<120), the meals here did not help me. Your milage may vary.

Two of my best friends are diabetics! We often eat our meals together and I was having a tough time trying to find a good recipe that I could use and yet have the food taste good! I love this book....it is so easy to use. Anyone that does not want to fuss....should buy this book! I think it is wonderful!

For non-diabetics too,

This review is from: No-Fuss Diabetes Recipes for 1 or 2: 125 Healthy & Delicious Meals and Desserts (Paperback)
These no-fuss recipes are great for ANYONE! You don't have to have diabetes to try these great tasting recipes. And it was such a pleasure to have easy to prepare recipes with amounts to serve one or two people-what a great way to try out a recipe! It is much simpler to double up or increase the serving size of recipes than to divide or reduce a recipe. I think this book should be re-titled to "No-fuss Recipes for One or Two"

An Essential Cookbook for Diabetic "New" Cooks,
By A Customer
This review is from: No-Fuss Diabetes Recipes for 1 or 2: 125 Healthy & Delicious Meals and Desserts (Paperback)
"No-Fuss" is truly the best title for this cookbook. My 21 year old daughter, a college student, was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes recently. The dietician has her "counting carbs" and learning to identify slower-absorbing sources of carbohydrates. She is "new" to cooking, and these delicious recipes fit the trends of today's taste, ease of preparation, and are colorful and satisfying. We are hoping for "Book Two" to be out in a few years. Bravo to the writers!

Finally, quick recipes! Some of the recipes you get in other books have way too much prep time or are too complicated to make. I think this is the best resource for someone with diabetes who has to watch sugar/carb intake. I hope more versions of this book comes out.

One of my favorite weeknight cookbooks,
This review is from: No-Fuss Diabetes Recipes for 1 or 2: 125 Healthy & Delicious Meals and Desserts (Paperback)
I am not diabetic, nor is anyone in my family, but this is one of my favorite cookbooks. Almost every recipe I've tried from this book is cheap, fast, easy, healthy, and tasty. I'm a very adventurous eater, but when cooking for myself, the biggest problem tends to be the cost of picking up boxes and bottles of ingredients that might only end up being used once. Most of the ingredients called for in this book are things I already have in the pantry or freezer anyway.
This is one book that will stay on my shelf for years to come.

I liked many recipes, and how they were presented. Not sure if some recipes are 100%appropriate for a strict diabetic diet but will certainly help me keep on track without being bored

i relied on other amazon reviewers to choose this book.
talk about spot-on 5-star reviews! this book covers a few simple basics, great pantry/refrig stocking lists which could make everything in the book, and get-real recipes and portion-control servings (without being starvation-servings). i'm back to purchase one as an x-mas gift for a dear friend. i used a marketplace seller and the book arrived quickly and in new condition for a fraction of the new price. great! |
