Amazing. Certainly one of the best albums of last year. Each song is delicate and extremely well crafted, as all of American Football's songs were, but this time, the acoustic takes the foreground. Layered guitars and hauntingly beautiful vocals make this a heart breaking look at lost loves and past relationships. And it's only one person - Mike Kinsella. If I had to choose, I'd say my favorite song is "Ghost of What Should've Been"- it's so warm and yet tragic at the same time: "What else in this room reminds me of the relationship I've ruined? The tables I made- strong enough to hold your magazines, not your tired legs." You don't hear those kind of lyrics on mainstream radio. Though "No Good For No One Now" is only seven songs and I wish it were longer, each is so intricate, accessible, and brilliant that I didn't mind it. Especially not enough to deny this album the credit it's due. In fact, I own several albums that clock in under 23 minutes, but none of which comes close to the desperate, penetrating, and powerful words of Owen. For those who haven't heard of this band, Owen isn't whiny as some would say and Mike Kinsella definitely isn't a sell out like some other people I know (cough...Chris Carrabba....cough). But, If you liked American Football and want to pick up where they left off, this is a great album to start with.

Slightly more melodically intricate, this worthy companion (and perhaps slightly more developed) to Owen's debut is sure to please fans of the mellow progressions that lie in these soft but effective odes to lost love.

This is the best CD I bought in 2003!,

If you like the emo mixed with the folk mixed with the electronics mixed with a twist of Kinsella, this is the disc. The lyrics are strong and the songs kept me quessing. I even teared up a few times. I love this album.

Mike Kensilla,

Mike Kensilla is amazing. All of his projects have been different, yet golden in their own right. I would compare it to Further Seems Forever and Dashboard, both good but a different sound. Owen is soft indie with beautiful lyrics that remind me of The Weakerthan's lyrics. Check out Nobodys Nothing, and The Ghost of What Should have been. Two really great songs in my opinion. So if you liked Kensilla's other projects ie American Football or Owls; or Death Cab then this should be a great CD for you.

Owen- Mike Kensilla,

Mike Kensilla has created a beautiful peace of art work with his third solo album 'No Good For no One Now'. The album was released in November of 2002 off of polyviny records. Although it contains only seven songs, they are well constructed. Sure the album leaves you wanting more...Kensilla's voice is completely refreshing. All of the songs on the album are slow and inspiring. If you like coldplay or travis, Owen isn't far behind. Kensilla writes and performs all of his music on the album.

quit whining already and make some more good music!,

If it weren't for Mike Kinsella's talent and the first Owen album, I would only give No Good For No One Now a single star. The songs are good for the most part, even great, but I get sick of him whining about his relationships. Especially when his voice gets loud for a word or phrase and sounds horrible.
