Prepare yourself for a good rocking time,

Most UFO fans consider the years between 1974 and 1978 to be the very best, a time UFO released five timeless classics each year by the name of "Phenomenon", "Force it", "No heavy petting", "Lights out", and "Obsession". The album "No heavy petting" from 1976 might just be the best of them all. UFO deliver hard rocking numbers like "Natural thing" (with a groove that send chills down my spine); fast tunes with a lot of melody like "Can you roll her" as well as catchy and lighter songs like "A fool in love" and "Highway lady". UFO also give proof of their feeling in writing slow semi ballads and the over all acoustic "Martian landscape" and "Belladonna" are both excellent. And don't forget the heavy blues inspired "On with the action", the almost Zeppelin sounding "Reasons love", and the more well known "I'm a loser". In my opinion, "No heavy petting" is one of the best hard rock albums ever released and UFO's ability to create variation in their material would indeed make you want to listen to these songs over and over again, year after year. As you put this album into your stereo you'll realize that there actually were a time when the albums contained a strong set of unique songs instead of one hit attempt and a lot of fillers. I'll chose an album of 9 or 10 good songs over an album that includes up to 15 tracks where half of them are at best mediocre any day. How about you?

DON'T PANIC! IT'S THE SAME REMASTER!,
By
This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
So, you bought the 2000 EMI remaster & now you think you have to do it all over again?
Relax. This is the same master used for the 2000 version. So, unless you're just dying to have the LP mini-sleeve for five times the price, don't knock yourself out. WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI-LP-SLEEVE" CD? Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you. Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics. Then, there's the sonic quality: Often (but not always), mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often (but not always) be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere. Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded. All mini-sleeve releases are limited edition, but re-pressings/re-issues are becoming more common (again, not always). The enthusiasm of mini-sleeve collecting must be tempered, however, with avoiding fake mini-sleeves manufactured in Russia and distributed throughout the world, primarily on eBay. They are inferior in quality, worthless in collectable value, a total waste of money, and should be avoided at all costs.

Heavy Petting for Heavy Rockers!,
By Thin Timmy "Bela Drake" (New Orleans, La.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
I bought this after strangers in the night and it rocked
more than the live album. The production is so raw and clean that it's a live album without the crowd noise. Natural Thing starts off with those great opening chords and it rips from there. The singing, playing and writing were awesome. Even the slower songs are classics. If you like the early UFO albums this is a must for any fan. It's too bad more people didn't hear of UFO in there day. I'm proud to say I was there from the start and still am!

MY FAVORITE,

Great "old school" UFO at their best. Original, Hard, Fast and imaginative all at the same time. I literally wore out the album in my teens. No Heavy Petting is a classic! With a couple mellow tunes like " Belladonna and Martain Landscape" (thrown in to let Schenkers fingers cool) it is indeed a well rounded rock-n-roll CD. If you like first-rate guitar work loaded with gracious amounts of originality, No Heavy Petting has what you'r looking for. WHAT A GEM!

Great Rock'n'Roll,

When I saw this recording was available on CD, I had to get it. I have had the LP since the '81 and have always enjoyed listening to everyone of the tracks. When I realized there were lyrics included I was amazed, but am not sure they are accurate.

This is one of the best selections you'll find for "Road Music". Plug it in, crank it up, and hit the highway ! Especially for those who prefer something different and not worn out by radio overkill. One of my all-time favorites from the 70's > which tends to take you from a powerful, almost heavy metal city tour, to a soft, magical ride through the country.

This is almost the band at its peak.,
This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
This album is UFO right before they really hit their stride. "Natural Thing" is one of the best rockers they have ever done. The whole band sounds like they are going for broke and that intensity pays off. After "Lights Out" this may be the next one to purchase.

The best of the amazing first 4 Michael Schenker UFO albums.,
By Jon Leon "Jon Leon" (Los Angeles CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
This is the best overall record UFO ever recorded. Most people either go Force It or Lights Out, but I disagree. All the first 4 are about the best of the 70's-especially for guitar playing and tone-but this has the best songs and balance.
This album has a variety and energy that is amazing. The stand out songs are the amazing slow rocker On With the Action, Reasons Love(Possibly the heaviest song they ever did) and Highway Lady, along with of course Natural Thing and Can you Roll Her. I'm a Loser has one of Schenker's best leads he ever laid down-this song is a prime example of how Schenker could take a song from good to classic with just one perfect solo. He did that alot. He was as MVP in a band as you can get. Bella Donna Is haunting and perfect. The last track Martian Landscape is a great ballad and if anything very unique. It is no Love to Love or Queen of the Deep, but damn good in it's own right. It's sad to see only 15 reviews on here. This album and the other's of the first 4 with MS should be worshiped by more. If comparing era of 74-77-these albums are better than most of the competition. This band did not do so well in the 80's like the other bands they were rolling with in the 70's. Partly because of no MS and partly from song writing that fizzled a bit.....Judas Priest, Rush, Scorpions etc all went on to get better and have alot of success in different ways. MS left the band and in my opinion they were never the same. The chemistry between Schenker and bassist Pete Way was maybe the best between a guitarist and bassist in rock history. Nobody picks a guitar like Schenker-and his tone is the best of that era-period. No guitarist is a finer example in 70's rock and metal than Michael Schenker-along with the great Uli Roth of the Scorpions. Germany gave us some amazing talent in the 1970's. Schenker along with Randy Rhoads managed to be so great on just a small amount of recordings...they are my 2 favorite guitarists in Rock and Metal history.....Ozzy first 2 solo and those 4 UFO albums with MS in my opinion, feature the best SOUNDING guitar tone in history period. Long live Gibson flying V's, Marshalls and NEVE..... In closing-these guys all got back together in 1995 and I highly recommend watching the you tube footage out there. The 70's stuff you will find is awesome as well. Watch Pete Way and Michael Schenker's chemistry. They have something special when they play together. I just saw the new touring line up in LA last week. Pete is in poor health and of course no MS. So it was the 3 other original members and Vinny Moore on guitar. This band is just a bar band without Pete and Michael. It is hard to say-but they are no UFO without them. Love Phil-but this is one of those bands that was not defined by it's singer as much as by it's guitarist and bassist. The replacements were just not happening. Vinny is a good guitarist-but he cannot touch Schenker. Schenker is all about cut and tone and a very very original technique. The new bassist just is not right in so many ways... I wish Pete the fastest recovery possible. I can only pray him and MS get on stage one more time. No Heavy Petting is -along with albums like In Trance by the Scorpions and 2112 by Rush-so relevant to an era that is bygone-when some of the greatest players and producers made the best sounding and awe inspiring albums. UFO made 4 amazing records that should be rocked loudly with the top down on a sunny day whenever possible. Phenomenon, Force It, Lights Out and the best of them all....No Heavy Petting. Absolutely brilliant and classic in every way. Long Live 70's UFO............... -Jon Leon

This might be my favorite UFO album. The digital remastering sounds great, but it is clear why the three bonus tracks never made it onto the original album. Still a great addition to my other UFO CDs. I feel that this recording is some of Micheal Schenker's best guitar work.

This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
UFO was on a roll so to speak after their breakthrough 'Force It' and the guitar wizardry of Michael Schenker started to gain the band serious notoriety in hard rock circles. In May of 1976, 'No Heavy Pettin' continued the run of magnificience. Danny Peyronel had joined the band during the supporting tour for 'Force It' but he only lasted throught the supporting tour for the next album. He was replaced on a more permenant basis by Paul Raymond, however Peyronel was the first keyboard player in UFO after former Ten Years After keysman Chuck Churchill, who had played on the two prior LP's strictly in a session capacity. "Natural Thing" blows out of the speakers with a monsterous riff that works magic as the album opener. Sordid tales of groupies always seem to make great rock songs and both "Thing" and "I'm a Loser" both became concert staples, the latter featuring both acoustic and metal genius from Mr. Schenker. Other favorites include "Can You Roll Her" and "Reasons Love" which features an incredibly fast guitar solo from Schenker. Peyronel contributed "Highway Lady" another fast and loose rocker which tempowise seemed to fit with many of the speed rockers on the record. Not known for being a great blues band didn't stop UFO from unleashing the album's crowing jewel (in my humble opinion anyway)"On With the Action", a burning, seething groovefest with Phil's tough lyrics about the desolation of the streets and Michael's trademark tone, slowed down to a molten pace, then ratched up for another mindblowing lead break. Leo Lyons' production, his last with UFO after three trailblazing records, captured the essence of Michael's sound and this just might be his best guitar sound UFO record. Some duds towards the end (including a another cover that blows!) don't hurt the majesty of another cornerstone release by the Seventies greatest unsung hard rock band. What the hell is that monkey doing anyway?
