3.0 out of 5 stars UFO in Transition here
With the addition of Danny Peyronel on keyboards after the release of Force It and working him into the ranks of the band, by the time of No Heavy Petting, the group offers up a record that, while is at times innovative, kind of drops the momentum gained from Phenomenon and the aforementioned Force It releases of before. You still get rockers like Natural Thing, Can You...

just wanted to give anyone who orders this disc a heads up. i ordered this cd last week from another website and what i got was the force it cd. what i mean is...the cd was the no heavy petting case and booklet but the the disc inside said force it which is another ufo cd. so i sent it back and they said before sending me a new one they would check it and that one also said force it. i was told that the manufacturer screwed up and put foce it cd's in all of the no heavy petting cases. so i decided to order one from amazon, and guess what? the same thing happened, but this time i decided to actually put the disc in my cd player and lo and behold, it was the no heavy petting cd. the disc is labeled force it, but the music on it is the nhp album. so i decided to keep it. i really want the music on it so i think i can live with the screw up. the booklet and cover are correct. anyway, thought i would be kind enough to let people know this. until they figure out the screw up, i guess anyone who orders this disc will have the same problem. please let me know if anyone else has experienced this. thanks. oh by the way, the cd sounds awesome, and the bonus tracks sound great, i hope they do this to all of the ufo cd's. some of them are impossible to get. later all....rob d

I am so pleased with the re-releases of the first three classic Ufo , and I recieved NHP today on it's release date ,(have to wait a couple more days for the other two). I never get tired of these cd's or this band. and the bonus tracks make them even better. definitly worth the money at least so far , hope they do the same for Lights Out and Obsession.

5.0 out of 5 stars another masterpiece by the great UFO, October 22, 2008
By
This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
I'm a little worried about something. A growing concern of mine is that, with time, people will slowly start forgetting about UFO. I don't like the idea of one of my favorite hard rock bands from the 70's gradually fading away, and huge UFO fans would throw up at even the thought of such a thing happening.

You see, UFO is one of those bands that had, and still has, quite a lot of fans, and they were pretty popular in the 70's, but I fear sooner rather than later this fantastic band will start slipping peoples minds, and won't be remembered anymore. I feel it's my job -as a 27 year old guy who wasn't around in the 70's- to do my best sharing this wonderful band with as many people as possible.

Let's be honest- the lead singer has such an incredible voice I feel like crying when I hear it, and the guitarist is just as wonderful at what he does on the guitar. He goes the extra mile to create some truly spectacular solos.

With all that said, No Heavy Petting is perhaps one of the best examples of what "solid" means, in terms of hard rock masterpieces. Along with Wishbone Ash, Humble Pie, and Hawkwind, these are hard rock bands that should be remembered for years to come.

No Heavy Petting happens to contain a PERFECT selection of hard rock songs, and I couldn't argue with anyone who thinks it's the bands best album. It might just be. I love Phenomenon a little bit more, but No Heavy Petting is really just as incredible too. Please, remember UFO and keep these guys in your CD collection. We can't let these good ol' rockers disappear. Time goes on, but great music should stick around forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, Great Bonus Tracks, BGO Still Tops, May 16, 2008

Yes, the sound here is "Way" better than the previous released domestic versions; but I personally prefer the sound of the BGO remastered version to this one. The BGO release packs more of a punch with Schenker's guitar and Way's bass right up in your face. This release is a bit more "listener" friendly with Mogg's voice and the more treble laden sounds coming through more prominently. What may make this attractive for any UFO fan is the bonus tracks. The songs included are arguably the best of any of the recent remasters. Plus, the price is so much more reasonable than the long out-of-print BGO version (what's another $15 bucks?). So if you own the BGO version, you may be a bit disappointed in the overall sound, but pleased with the bonus material. For a newcomer to the band, add this to cart ASAP. This album rocks and features one of the best guitar players on the planet. Oh, and while your at it, add "Phenomenon" & "Force It" to your cart too (what's another $30 bucks?)!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, April 1, 2008
This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
This is a brilliant re-master of a classic rock album. Please see my review of the original album for more detail if you like, suffice to say this is well engineered and comes with bonus material for the collectors. One of their best studio albums from a golden age and one of my favourites to this day. Bliss!

I also received a copy with the Force It label but luckily the music was from NHP, maybe once the manufacturer straightens this out these mislabeled copies will become collectible, who knows, aside from this, the new remastered edition sounds excellent and the bonus tracks add the icing on the cake, I swear I can hear little details in the mix that I've never noticed before in earlier editions, Schenker's guitar seems to jump right out at you,to really appreciate it try listening with headphones or cranking your stereo with a generous amount of volume, a true classic album.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Albums You Never Heard, February 25, 2010

I didn't know much about UFO except for the album Force It which is excellent. I recently started to buy some of their cd's and now they're my new favorite band. I've bought Force It, Lights Out and No Heavy Petting. I'm sorry folks, I know that Lights Out is this band's most lauded work, but No Heavy Petting is much better than Lights Out. There is nothing on this album to equal "Lights Out" or "Love to Love" from that album on NHP, but as a whole NHP is the better album. Every song on this cd just plain rocks! All of the music is well-written and executed. Even all of the extra tracks included on this edition are great listens. I can't believe that I didn't listen to this band back in the seventies when they were at the top of their game. I am now going to order the rest of the Michael Shenker era albums, and I'm sure I won't be dissapointed. Anyone that likes hard rock should get this. A truly classic album that never made it as big as it should have. I stll like Force It better, but NHP is a close 2nd. The remastered sound of this reissue is also better than the remastered sound of the past editions. Every song is a highlight and a great listen. I recommend it to all fans of hard rock.

4.0 out of 5 stars total underdog rock, July 10, 2008

UFO is pretty much forgotten by all except the most die hard classic rockers. They are the ultimate hard rock band. Their influence on Metallica and Iron Maiden is huge but most of that audience has no idea who they are. Maybe someday UFO will have a popularity resurgance like what's happened with Thin Lizzy. They certainly deserve to be heard by more people. This record and all the others with Schenker are great. Get em all! These CD's sound great and the booklets are very informative.

Check out Mighty High...In Drug City.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is great!!!, June 22, 2008

This review is from: No Heavy Petting (Audio CD)
"no heavy petting" was the first ufo album i ever heard back in 1976 and i loved it right from the start! i was a big aerosmith, kiss, queen, deep purple, fan in those days. (i still am)

the reason this music really appealed to me is because it was straight ahead rock like the other stuff i liked but it was so different. phil mogg wasn't a classic screamer like ian gillan or steven tyler, but he had swagger and told offbeat stories with his lyrics and his voice was original and honest!

the first song that grabbed me was "can you roll her". it was fast and rocking but the guitar was incredible! michael schenker could play lightning fast but also played slower melodies that were very well thought out. for instance, "on with the action", a mid tempo song with great lyrics had a guitar line that built up slowly and worked up to a lead that ends so fast that thirty two years later i still can't figure it out!

then they had slow songs, i guess what today would be called ballads. "belladona" and "martian landscape" which showed how dynamic these guys were. i think the songs they used on this album fit together perfectly. i also love the extra songs, although i understand why they weren't on the original record.

"have you seen me lately joan" and "all the strings" are classic ufo and are definitely of the "no heavy petting" era.

the overall sound quality of this album is not great, but the remix is a big improvement. i think the producer knew he had a goldmine with these five guys and did a great job on what was probably a tight budget.

every ufo fan should have a copy of this!

4.0 out of 5 stars classic UFO, May 31, 2009

Just downloaded this remastered recording. Much better sounding than the original LP. The 5 bonus tracks are icing on the cake. This has all the elements that made the classic lineup so great. Great songs, Phil Mogg's vocals are very powerful but not over the top, Schenker rips some of his best solo's here too. Instead of being self indulgent little outtakes, they fit in with the songs. I also think the Parker/Way rhythm section never sounded tighter than on this cd. Natural Thing smokes( almost better than the live version),Have You Seen Me... and Tonight,Tonight are nice additions. A Fool In Love has the classic UFO crunch with great lyrics and melodies. I would recommend this, Strangers In The Night and Lights Out for any fan wanting to sample UFO.
