5.0 out of 5 stars better than laswell's "a dub transmission"!
even if buckethead's guitar work isn't the focal point of this cd,and even if you normally don't listen to electronic music this disc if well worth checking out!it has trippy samples and the dj scratches aren't ever "overpowering" as they can be on some other dj's albums.it's just a bunch of tripped-out beats that are chilled to the core!a must have for any fan...

2.0 out of 5 stars Buckethead fan...but not this C.D.!
I'm a huge Buckthead fan, but I have to agree with someone else's review that I read, It's not for Buckethead fans! There's way too much D.J. going on and a lot of repetivness. Buckethead doesn't even seem to be on the C.D.!

Im a huge Bucket fan, that is why I initially bought the cd. But this cd is SO much more. Amazing beats by Brain, awe striking mixes by Disk. You need this disc. This will chew you up and spit you out, wishing for more. Lets all hope for El Stew II or a live album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Experimental Hip Hop, Band Style?, August 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: No Hesitation (Audio CD)
I'm a huge hip hop fan, I'm into a lot of DJ stuff. I bought Eddie Def's "Wax Peoples" and found out how incredible he is, so when I picked up El Stew and saw his name in small print on the back, I knew it had to be tight. I was not disappointed, but I was surprised. This does not sound like a dj album. Rather, it is like a band, with the dj as the lead singer, I guess. It's mind-blowing, weird, crazy, and unfathomably good. My man who reviewed this first is right on... the beats are as dope as any I've ever heard. Their samples are loony as hell. If you're at all familiar with the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, then surely you've heard about the Shiggar Fraggar. Well, on this album he actually plays! I have a few Shiggar Fraggar Show albums, but it's always dedicated to him and not by him. I couldn't tell you what part of the tracks he's on, but he's there. Anyway, pick this up if you've got an open musical mind and want to hear something you've never heard before. It has quickly become one of my favorites. If anybody could tell me what the hell a 'vocoder' is, I'd appreciate it...

Buckethead rules! If you like DJ work, Heavy Bass and super beats this album is for you. Buckethead doesnt stand out on this recording but is on most of the songs. Igloo condo is one of my favorite songs that buckethead plays on ever. If you like buckethead buy this album for this song alone and you might fall in love with what you hear.

This disc is amazing. It's hop-poppy, laid back and the scratching is superb. You can even dance to a few of the songs... Shiggar Fraggar is da man!

I tell you, these fools are beat masters. I really like the little samples that prelude some of the songs. Ingenious. I can't play the whole CD all the way through, 'cause a couple songs don't have the mastery that others do. Some of what these guys are doing is unmatched by other triphop artists.
Buy it. Songs 4,5,8,10,11,13 are my favorite.

if you're a buckethead lover this is not the place to go - the dj'ing is ok but buck's contribution is minimal - better to get one of the giant robot cd's or some praxis
