5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK LIVES UP TO IT'S TITLE
No Justice, and no, there wasn't much peace. Only the gifted and talented Miss Brenda Hampton could pull off a book like this. That is why I appreciate her writing more than others because she can go from a lover boy novel, to writing a novel as gangsta-fied and realistic as this. There wasn't no sugar-coating or glorifying the events in this book. Killey's life was what...

2.0 out of 5 stars somewhat disappointing
Thus far I've been a fan of Ms. Hampton but she lost me on this one. Once you can't get past the obvious lack of editing the story does hold your attention if you can get past the use of the word Moreso over and over. The character returns to the same ol' thing he was jailed for. In summary, same story, same character same ending.

Killey's life was what he made it, and Miss Brenda sure didn't lie when she stated your heart will skip a beat. Mine surely did and I read this story in one day. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing down my face and the last time I can recall a work of fiction having such an impact on me was while watching Boyz In The Hood. It took my breath away when Morris Chestnut's character was shot, and this book made me feel the same way. I won't give details, but since Ms Hampton has a way of bringing readers into the story, I felt every bit of the drama, drama, and more drama. (The sex scenes were nice too. Poor Anna. If she couldn't hang then she should have given him to a sister who could)! I was there all the way to the end, as if Kiley was my man and Dezmon was my son. What a brave and unforgettable story. Great job, and once again, my applause to Miss Hampton for creating novels that will stay with readers forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars If the Postman don't deliver, Brenda Hampton will., April 11, 2005

This review is from: No Justice No Peace (Paperback)
What is there left to be said about Miss Brenda and her way of writing? EXCELLENT, OUTSTANDING, ENJOYABLE, REALISTIC, THE BOMB, OFF THE CHAIN, CREATIVE, GIFTED, TALENTED, RAW, GUTSY, DRAMA FILLED, AWESOME, AND SEXY, SEXY, SEXY. Of course, all of this has been said before about the lady who will deliver no matter what the genre is. I attached myself to No justice no Peace and right after I read it, I picked up How Can I Be Down and read it again. My weekend was enjoyalbe and I topped it off with Zane's latest read, Afterburn. I love these authors to the fullest. Their books are INCREDIBLALLYDELICIOUS! Now, that's a new word to add to the list of the greatest reads:
No justice no peace
How can i be down
My way or no way
Two's enough
Slick
Change don't always come
My best friend's man
Anything by Zane

5.0 out of 5 stars yet again, May 4, 2005
This review is from: No Justice No Peace (Paperback)
this book will have you laughing, crying and wanting to choke the S*** out of Ginger. This book keeps you turning the pages. It is strongly suggested that you read this when you know you have the time and no one can bother you because you are not going to want to be bothered. This is a good enjoyment and a good read.

Kiley Abrams is back with a vengeance! He has did ten years of hard times and Lady Luck has dealt him another hand with a smile. He invented the saying, "You can't keep a good man down!" The hurricane is coming inland to fight a force worth reckoning. Wanting a change, but not really knowing how to do this. 5.0 out of 5 stars Brenda is unstoppable, July 11, 2005

Louise (Chicago - I'm back home FINALLY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No Justice No Peace (Paperback)
Brenda is too good. You know how sometimes sequels are really not that great. Damn that, they suck. Brenda is incredible with what she does with this one.

She brings Kiley back from How Can I Be Down with No Justice No Peace. After Kiley has to leave his young son to deal with his consequences. He still is mourning the death of his brother, the legacy of his father and the issues of being a father in jail. When Kiley finally is out there is one thing after another. His "baby mama" is true to form. As she is on her back for money and dealing with her drug addiction, Desmond is running the streets and acting wild. He has no respect for anyone or anything including Kiley. Kiley has got to get things in order from homelife to getting paid again.

How in the world is Kiley going to handle this foul mouth wannabe thug, his drug addict son's mother, an old time friend who wants him back in the game, revenge on that "b&$*^" who got him locked up anyway, the haters who are out there anyway, the death of his homeboy Quincy, and a naive chick who doesn't understand his way of life?

5.0 out of 5 stars And the literary Oscar goes to......., July 1, 2005
This review is from: No Justice No Peace (Paperback)
Fast forward ten years from where 'How Can I Be Down' left off. With some legal maneuvering, Kiley Abrams is a free man. At the top of his "to do" lost: 1) exact revenge on those that helped bring him down, 2) reconnect with his son and 3) make sure things are copacetic before his best friend Quincy is also released. But as we all know with this crazy thing we call life, things don't always go as planned. Kiley's son Desmon is no longer an impressionable toddler that thinks the world of his father. Instead, he's a rebellious, defiant and headstrong teenager. He's been without a father for ten long years, and sees no need of having one now. Despite his determination to be a role model and good father, Kiley is immediately drenched in drama, chaos and violence. He also finds himself falling for a woman, something he promised not to do considering that trusting a woman is how he landed in his predicament in the first place. Will she be his downfall? Will Kiley be able to develop the father/son relationship that he so longs for? Can he prevent Desmon from following in his footsteps? And will Kiley get it together before he lands back in jail or six feet under?

Brenda has done it again! (But did you expect anything less?) She continues to show just how talented of an author she is. 'No Justice No Peace' is a captivating story with unforgettable characters. It's the perfect blend of drama, sex, violence and intrigue. Brenda is taking the literary world by storm.

I am a huge fan of Brenda M. Hampton, I have enjoyed reading all of her books Jaylins still my MAN! I have had mixed feelings about this one. I enjoyed it, but it didn't have that RUSH that Brenda is know to give me. The first part of this book How Can I Be Down..I loved that one. In this book I felt Brenda really didn't know what to do with Kiley so she kept him in a bunch of un-necessary drama. And Candi that's what you get. I just can't wait to see what Brenda has in store for us next.
