Book Description

0940152037 978-0940152038 June 1986
A leader of the early American conservative movement, Congressman John M. Ashbrook was on the front lines of the Cold War in the 1960s and 1970s. He ran against Richard Nixon in the 1972 Republican primaries, then an unthinkable move against a popular president who had drifted to the left. But to Ashbrook, his run was a matter of principle. This book is a collection of Ashbrook's writings on the issues of the period, many of which still confront the nation. No Left Turns is a chronicle of the Cold War and a primer for conservatives in any period. Introduction: Jack Kemp. Foreword: Randy McNutt. Includes historic photos of Ashbrook and Republican figures of the era.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Ashbrook: Conservative Vanguard, January 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: No Left Turns: A Handbook for Conservatives Based on the Writings of John M. Ashbrook (Paperback)
If John Ashbrook would have been a resident of colonial America, it's a sure bet that he would have been one of the revolutionaries for our independence. John M. Ashbrook was a great conservative Congressman from Johnstown, Ohio. He was one of the early leaders of the "Draft Goldwater" movement, and even ran against Richard Nixon in the Republican Presidential primary of 1972, as a protest candidate to the left drifting Nixon. This book of John's collective writings shows him at his conservative best. There is even a forward by Jack Kemp, who considered Ashbrook to be his mentor. Check it out if you get a chance.
