Editorial Reviews

2010 release from the New Zealand outfit. Following up the unintentionally ostentatious achievements of the still solid-selling This Machine, in just four months would have been a tall order for most. Thankfully the Auckland based pairing of Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers, augmented by the thundering rhythm force of bass brigadier Ben Knapp and permanent tub thumper Jordan Clark, are not most. After the vivid colors and immediacy of This Machine, No Light is a (forgive the pun) darker beast with a bunch of tunes that will get their hooks into you... and not let go.

Format: MP3 Music Verified Purchase
I bought this album after purchasing "Passive Me, Aggressive You", which was one of my favorite albums of that year. I think if I had heard "No Light" first, I would have liked it a lot more. As it stands, I did not think the songs are as well developed as Passive Me... It's as if they had not quite found their "sound" yet. This album is very fuzz-guitar rock (see: Sleigh Bells) as opposed to the more electronic instrumentation of Passive Me...
I am not saying this is a bad album by any means, I quite enjoyed it - though not as much as Passive Me...Of course, I prefer a more electronic sound then what is on this release so I am a tad biased! I would definitely recommend it, but not as someone's first Naked&Famous album.
I should note that the track "Bells" is probably one of my favorite Naked&Famous songs and is well worth the purchase price of this album alone.

Nothing as catchy as Punching In a Dream or Young Blood (in my own opinion) but still a very good album.
