Are you kidding me?, June 22, 2009
This review is from: No Limit Hold 'Em Tournament Poker: (DVD)
This DVD was made back in 2004, it stars David Sklansky, Todd Brunson and Mike "The Mouth" Matuso. It is hosted by by playboy playmate Brande Roderick and, the creator of this production, and moderated by the creator of "Baywatch" Michael Berk.
So lets talk first about production of the DVD,with the snappy music as a soundtrack and the quick editing of poker playing in the beginning, you feel as if you were going to watch a very well put together.
Well are you? No of course your not. As the DVD begins, Brande introduces the DVD, the guests and after of five minutes of Brande talking, we are taken to the set where are guests are sitting down and ready to give commentary on an actual live game they are going to witness,...
a six handed game, with Brande as one of the players. Now remember the title of our DVD "No Limit Tournament Holdem"
Yes, because if you titled it, "No limit 6 man Tournament Holdem" who is going to buy it? Right, very little. As the pros watch these players play, and there is not one real player sitting at the table among all of them. We watch the horrible moves, the horrible junk hand calls, raising with poor hands,...and the treat for us, watching the pros shake their heads in disgust and tell quickly what should have been done. Interesting? It has the same value as watching a puppy relieve itself on the carpet and having dog owners explain what they would have done differently. While each pro is fantastic in their own ways, they cannot make up for the horrible playing at the table by these rank ( and I mean rank) supposedly poker players. If the pros were not there, my report would even be worst.
Honestly I can't stop you from spending your money on this, if common sense wont stop you, nothing will. Matusow, Sklansky and Brunson truly try very hard in a production that is even hard to see what the flop is.
I do not reccomend this product, and look forward in burying this product far away from the good Poker DVDs that I do have.
Oh and by the way, as a added "bonus" the makers of this DVD has a 20 minute chapter for online play hosted by someones grandmother. I kept looking to see if I could find a walker close to her or the glass of water close to her that may keep her dentures. In this section, this witty senior citizen gives NO REAL insight on online play, and while being question by Berk, she seems annoyed and vague in her answers.
Really, if you want to buy this DVD, may I suggest turning off the computer, go in the other room and ask the wall about should you buy this.
If it doesnt answer, then there is your answer.
