5.0 out of 5 stars Is the Grass Always Greener?, April 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
All Martha the Cow wants to do is visit the moon. After all, she comes from a bovine line who have become famous for their lunar exploits! Her adventures are amusing, and Mark Teague's illustrations make them absolutely hilarious! In the end, however, Martha arrives at that age-old conclusion: The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the galaxy!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT WORD PLAY AND A LOVEABLE STUBORN COW, October 22, 2011
This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
Martha is sad. Martha is disgruntled. Martha refuses to give milk...."her udder was dry and her eyes were wet." Martha is not a happy milk cow. Rob the farmer and apparently Martha's best friend questions the rather stubborn bovine and finds that she is bored and wants to do more "than cow around in a pasture all my life." It seems that Martha's grandmother was the fabled cow that jumped over the moon and Martha, in her turn, also wants to go to the moon! "No Moon, No Milk," she informs Rob.

And so the journey and adventure begins.

Poor Rob tries every thing from surfing at Venice Beach in Southern California, visiting Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, visiting Radio City Music Hall in New York to see the "Rockets," (Get it...Rockets...like as in moon rockets).

Will Rob ever make Martha be happy? Perhaps a trip to the American Museum of Natural History will work..."A science moooseum" where they have a mock-up of the lunar surface. We shall see.

This is a delightfully funny book which is full of cow word play. Martha is a rather loveable cow who know what she want (anyway, she thinks she does) and a very dedicated farmer friend.

The artwork is quite well done and ranges from cute to truly funny. It blends quite well with the text so you not only get a verbal joke and story, but also a visual one.

This is an ideal work for a group read. I have yet to find a kid that did not enjoy it. As a matter of fact, I have yet to find an adult that did not enjoy it as much as the kids!

I heard of this book from a friend, he had found it in a Library and said his children loved it. A friend's son had a birthday and I purchased it for a gift and received a big thank you from this boy.

Not only did these young people like this book, but before I sent it to the birthday boy I read it. I enjoyed very much and have recommended it to others for their children. It is a great book for beginning readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Teague and a Cow! What's Not to Love?, September 10, 2008
This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
With a silly, well-written story and clever illustrations, this is one of my kids' all-time favorite stories. We've enjoyed No Moon, No Milk for about 14 years, and my nine-year-old still reads it whenever she wants a giggle. My highest praise? You can give this book as a gift, without ever having laid eyes on it, and be sure you've given a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Treasure, April 29, 2007

This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
My daughter has loved this book for years and at six still enjoys it. My two year old son now loves the book and will sit through the whole story.

It has great pictures and lends itself to fun voices. My daughter loves to cry along with Martha as she cries "No Moon, No Milk."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Creme de la creme, June 5, 2004
This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
This is among our most ultimately favorite storytime books ever. My children, now 7 and 9, have enjoyed this since they were toddlers. The pictures are bright and interesting and the story is hilarious. Try as he may to please her, Rob just can't seem to Moooove Martha from her quest to go to the moon. The thing I as a parent liked was I never became bored of reading this aloud. There is humor for the child, naturally, but there is plenty of "clever" humor as well, to satisfy the grownup or the terribly precocious child! LOL In fact, reading this may just help children develop that quirkly sense of humor.... Anyway, Martha is just insistent enough to be interesting but not annoying. Rob is both amused and somewhat frustrated at Martha's determination, but together it's a match made in the barnyard. I highly recommend this, as do my children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Udderly fabulous!, June 5, 2003
By
This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
My son and I were hooked on this book from the first page! The characters are delightful, with the histrionic cow grumbling and throwing tearful fits in her quest to visit the moon, and the earnest owner trying creatively to help her out. The story is zany and funny (who knew cows could take a tour bus to Crater Lake?) and the words are delectably well-suited to giggly read-aloud sessions.
The owner's cross-country trip with his cow is also educational for young readers. It includes a subtle geography lesson and an introduction to the wonders of museums...plus a nice example of true friendship.
To top it off, Mark Teague's impressionistic illustrations are a marvel, and a perfect comedic counterpoint to the text. I recommend this book highly!

Good moral about compromise and wanting to get one's own way.

Pictures, as usual, are great!

Nice little story for children who've heard "the cow jumped over the moon".

A Kid's Review
This review is from: No Moon, No Milk! (Paperback)
No Moon, No Milk i great book!! It captures your imagination right from the beginning and with every turn of the page it sticks with you. This story is about a cow who wont give any milk to Rob, until she goes to the moon. Rob and the Cow do some pretty crazy stunts to get there.

This book is very interesting, it grabs your attention right away. I would recommend this to everyone. I enjoyed this book becuase of the crazy things the cow and Rob go through together in the story.
