The thing about Mal Waldron was his brooding angular yet non-monkish style (he liked to flow more with the angles).it is stunning to hear his uniquique compositions along with unique interpetations.Here is the mix if you don't remember from previous page:

I won't say it his best outing but one any pianist would die to have in his or her catalogue but a great relaxed date that does not get a five star only because it's Waldron.Cardoso and Betsch don't create fire but aren't intending to and don't get in the way.Not his most profound trio date (I'd look to the early 70's Enja dates for that) but splendid nonetheless.

This 1988 trio outing by Mal Waldron for the Timeless label revisits, as the title suggests, selections that have come to be associated with Billie Holiday (or, Lady Day). Waldron paces himself like the schooled and comfortable cat that he was, his playing somewhat serious and sad. Waldron is, of course, the standout on this album. Just kick off your shoes and lay back into your couch--this one is bound to help you unwind. (Essential)
