No-No Bird's favourite word is NO! In fact, he likes saying it to everyone. NO he won't play with Little Mouse; NO he won't climb trees with Squirrel. Then he meets Snake and learns that Snake's favourite food is No-No Bird. Can No-No Bird escape from a sticky end by changing his favourite word to YES?

Editorial Reviews

Review

The lovely rhyming text should appeal to the slightly younger children who just love to say 'NO'! Nursery World Just the book for No-No toddlers Irish Examiner A beautiful rhyming book with a moral. This book should be on the shelves of all young children who love to say NO! Through his adventures The No-No Bird learns that by saying No he misses out on many things and after a near escape develops a new favourite word. This book provides many opportunities for parents and practitioners to discuss manners and positive attitudes with children. Within a primary school setting it would fit nicely into many of the Reception SEAL units. Most importantly, it is a simple story that children will enjoy joining in with. www.writeaway.org.uk A winner if you're stuck in that phase where every question you ask elicits a negative. The No-No Bird changes his catchphrase when he discovers that no one wants to play with him. Oh, and he nearly gets eaten by a snake. The latter fate is unlikely to befall your little one, but the message may hit home. Independent on Sunday Young readers will enjoy Andrew and Polly Peters' simple rhyming couplets which go well with Jim Coplestone's homely, well-designed illustrations. Adults will enjoy the chance to highlight the moral message of what can happen when children just say NO and nothing else. School Librarian A lovely book. 'Thank you so much for the brilliantly entertaining Ravenwood performances you gave at Bolton Library. As booksellers we host a lot of children's author events but agreed that yours was the best we've ever seen. Stella Morris and Debe Conway, Sweetens Bookshop'

'Andrew Peters made a dramatic impact on us all when he visited. He played didgeridoo and mesmerised us with his engaging retelling of episodes within Ravenwood. He was utterly captivating and copies in the library have been flying off the shelves.' Roseanne Pugh, Headteacher, Onny CE Primary School

'This fantasy adventure has a wonderfully original setting - a mile-high treetop society in the last forest of the future. But it's a world under threat from evil outside influences who want Ravenwood's natural resources. It's humorously told at a cracking pace, exploring deeper themes of ecology, conservation and power.' The Bookseller.

'This is a powerful fantasy adventure fuelled by an eerie magic written by a dramatic storyteller. Magic, mystery and adventure are tightly fused in this thrilling and original drama. It's lyrical and thought-provoking, whilst being hugely enjoyable.'
Julia Eccleshare, Lovereading4kids

'An action-packed adventure story set in the branches of giant trees; a meticulously imagined civilisation with its own religion and myths; political treachery and intrigue; heroism, and battles to the death: all are features of Andrew Peters' new novel Ravenwood. No wonder then that it is being described as an epic.' Books For Keeps

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rhyming book!, February 16, 2010
This review is from: The No-No Bird (Hardcover)
We checked this out from our local library, and my kids love it so much I had to buy our own copy. My children (ages 6 and 4) both love this book. Its simple enough for my beginning reader (6) to read aloud to his younger brother, and entertaining enough for the grown-ups when we read it over and over again. Plus, it has a nice educational lesson about the perils of saying "No!" to everything and everyone.
