Rock Solid, Intelligent, Statistically Based Advice on Craps,

This review is from: No-Nonsense Craps: The Consummate Guide to Winning at the Crap Table (Perfect Paperback)
I purchased this book as a casual gambler looking to maximize my chances at actually walking away from the table with someone in my pocket. As the author explicitly states in the prologue - this is not a book for those who fail to understand that craps is a game of statistics. Each roll of the dice is an independent chance event. Making money while playing craps should be done in the context of entertainment, and not as your primary source of income. Making money at craps should also be viewed as maximizing your odds in a game of pure statistics. If you are into "hot tables" and dice rolling mechanics, do not buy this book. If you are looking for a very intelligent analysis of maximizing your statistical advantage in a game of pure statistics, this book is absolutely for you. Its well written, smart, and overall a pleasure to read. This is exactly what I was looking for - a "no-nonsense" approach to the strategies (statistics) behind this game. The statistics in the game are as constant as the laws of physic - this author does a superb job of presenting them and translating them into useable strategies. Bravo Mr Orlyn!!! B.W., MD, PhD

Fantastic,
This review is from: No-Nonsense Craps: The Consummate Guide to Winning at the Crap Table (Perfect Paperback)
This book was just that, No-Nonsense. The author presented the game of craps in a way that a beginner can easily learn. He then gave his own strategy of playing craps that is also easy to learn along with other tips about the game and gambling in general. The author does not set out to claim he will make you rich at gambling. He, instead, presented a way to have fun a craps while also having the chance to come out a winner during some sessions of play. The book is relatively short, but the information is superb for anyone that is new to the game, or even for the hardened player who may be looking at another way to approach the game.

Great book. Gets you into the game quickly, with the possibility of winning or at least racking up some casino credits.
Downside, his comments on dice setting. Yes, dice-setting does work and it works very well. Very few people are at the point to make a living at the craps table but if you should be lucky to be at a table with a dice-setter, you will probably leave a little richer.

The book was for the very beginner in Craps. "The Consummate Guide to Winning---" was really the very basics. "The Consummate---" words imply a lot more advanced techniques of play and money management. Total waste of money for me. Change CONSUMMATE to BEGINNING to make the title correct.

Played the "system" in this book on a recent trip to Vegas (Aria). I can confirm the system works as billed. You aren't going to win big, but you're also not going to get wiped out in a couple of rolls. I can confirm the croupier was not really happy with the way I was playing. Kept asking me if I wanted to put up odds on the 2nd and 3rd tier points and admonishing me for missign out on the "best bet" in the house. Of course when I won my small bets or broke even, the rest of the table playing the "best bet in the house" kept losing big. I did miss out on a hot run (still won, just not nearly as much as everyone else), but I missed out on the typical cover 3 numbers with full odds only to lose when the shooter crapped out. I must admit I started throwing in a few field bets just to keep my attention towards the end. However, if you want to play a long time, drink for free, and end up a few bucks (not at all a bad afternoon in Vegas), give the system a shot.

Not for everyone,

This review is from: No-Nonsense Craps: The Consummate Guide to Winning at the Crap Table (Perfect Paperback)
I've tried craps a few times - without much success. I like to gamble but I don't like to lose a lot of money. So this book sounded like it might allow me the enjoyment of gambling without going through what I've allowed myself too quickly. It worked fairly well. I had two sessions at a table. The first one I pretty much broke even. The second one put me ahead by just a few dollars. Sound like a waste of time? Not at all. Neither session had a long favorable run. I saw many players lose quickly and leave while I continued to play. Some may find this boring but I came away with my bank. And next time, maybe I'll hit that lucky streak and walk away a winner. I also became familiar with the game. The author cautions that this strategy isn't for everyone. But it suits me - I like to at least have a fighting chance.

I bought several books on craps, and this one was the best. Very understandable strategy, can be read in a reasonable time. Not complicated. Strategy may not make you rich quick, but every time I have used it I was able to play for hours and end up at least a little ahead.

Great for Beginners, Good for all Players,
By B. Zaharris (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No-Nonsense Craps: The Consummate Guide to Winning at the Crap Table (Perfect Paperback)
As with most of the other reviewers, I was anxious to get on the craps table but didn't know the first thing about how to play. I heard it was statistically an advantageous game for the player compared to others in the casino, but once again that assumes the player knows the correct strategies and what to bet on. This book solves all of those problems. Not only is it a great introduction to the rules and format of craps, but the author lays out an easy to learn strategy that exploits the small house advantage. The author's writing is straightforward and is free from all of the unnecessary fluff that comes with a lot of other how-to books. The math is easy enough that you don't need an advanced statistics degree but in depth enough that you are confident in the numbers he is throwing at you. This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning craps or looking for an effective "game plan" to enhance your dice-rolling experience.
