Book Description

No Nonsense Guides (Verso) November 2001
Major issues facing the world today, complex as they are, are further obfuscated -- often deliberately -- by political and corporate jargon and media spin. This new Verso series of No-Nonsense Guides, published in conjunction with New Internationalist magazine, cuts through the confusion to present the facts and arguments concerning contemporary global issues as accessibly as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and Fun, October 21, 2009
I found this to be a really fun book that "broke it down" quick. From ancient history of the Indian hijas to Oscar Wilde to 19th century Chinese vegetarian sisterhoods. So cool how it doesn't ignore any of the letters in lgbt! Summarized descriptions from ancient to modern persecution in most world cultures. Since they don't teach this history in schools it's a great way to come up to speed. Also I can't emphasize more how fun this book is to read. It's a very enjoyable way to learn the basic history and struggle of queer people worldwide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Overview of Sexual Diversity, January 30, 2008
I was suggested this book for a study abroad program on gender and sexuality. This book gives a quick overview of the history of sexual diversit. The great thing about this book is that it tries to cover as much of the world's cultures throughout history and takes into consideration different cultral views. If you are wanting to start understanding gender and diversity pick this book up!
