Quality that's rare these days,
By Eddie "Alexxus" (Romania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: No One Built This Moment (Audio CD)
It's been quite a while since I last wrote a review here, but this album is so good I had to say something.
This is no dance album. No chillout/trance either. I'm not sure where exactly this fits in, because there are simply not many like it. I suppose it will have to qualify for something like downtempo, but that does not say anything about how suave the music actually is. First listening it seems a tad melancholic and maybe sad, but subsequently I find it's mostly pensive, reflective, in quality, or at least these are the feelings it addresses in me. However, if you do take the trouble to listen to it a few times, you'll gradually find how creative the music is. No catchy tunes, no hooks, just melodies flowing from one into another. Very mellow, very sleek. Fabulous voices, great production, top quality mastering and recording, this is worth every penny and then some.

First of all, I have their other albums and those are awesome. This album is awesome too. The people behind this project are brilliant at what they do. The album starts off strong with an ambient intro track that takes the listener to another world. Then the album picks up with super-nice vocal songs. Calling, Trust in your Love, Stop, Light to Your Life are all shining chill out songs. Not to mention the other songs on the album. Basically, if you are a fan of Buddah Bar, or chill out music in general, then get this album.

Bliss makes you believe in love,
This review is from: No One Built This Moment (Audio CD)
Every music lover knows that one artist that no one else does and are always trying to shove their music down peoples throats. For me, that band is Bliss. I first heard their hit song Kissing on a chill-out compilation ("kissing" holds the record for the most compiled song ever) about 6 years ago and can still remember the first time I heard it. It was like experiencing everything I've ever felt and wanted to feel from love all at once. It was beautiful. Naturally I bought their album Quiet Letters: U.S. Edition and have become a major fan ever since.
Their latest album "No One Built This Moment" is another shining example of the perfection that is Bliss. While many of the songs are largely instrumental, the emotion and beauty is just as present as when vocal goddess Sophie Barker accompanies. Every song is expertly produced in the highest sound quality that is heart stopping on a great surround sound system. While there wasn't a track quite as fantastic as "kissing" I found that track 3 "Trust In Your Love" came really close. It's a breath-taking song about putting your faith in love instead of worrying about losing it. Other highlights included "Calling" "Light to Your Life" and "The Hope". Essentially, however, this is an ALBUM. Unlike most music now days that focus on 1 mp3 wonders, this is designed to be listened to from start to finish. No skips, no fast forwards, no pauses. Every track seems to float into the next, creating 60 minutes of soundscape that you simply won't get from any other chill out artist or compilation. Now I see that this import is $30 and that does sound a little high even for something of this quality, so I really hope they release a US edition as well or are able to lower the price. Honestly, however, it really IS worth it. I can't praise this band enough. The production quality, the vocalists.. it's all perfect. If you have any interest in this kind of music, you will need this CD in your collection.

I have been listening to this CD for over six months through [...]. It was sent to me by one of my friend in Europe. But of course it was available there for so many months and now it is going to be mine here in the US. Bliss is one of most extraordinary groups, I have had the pleasure of running across in my forty-seven years. They never fail to please and comfort @ the same time. This is one group you should keep up with and give a listen to!!!!!!!!!!

Two months ago, I didn't know "Bliss". I've been looking for an album to listen too while studying, something calm, but nothing to put me asleep. I didn't want too much lyrics, because it's distracting when you want to concentrate.
I found Buddha-Lounge and it was okay, but some songs were too noisy for what I was looking for. So I kept searching and I found East Wind, "Gotan Project" and Hotel Tara, it's nice, I still listen to it. But... I wanted more so I kept browsing on Amazon and listening to music samples and then... I found Bliss. I've started with the album Quiet Letters and They Made History and I couldn't stop listening to them. It's EXACTLY the kind of music I want when I'm working on the computer, studying or simply relax. The music is soothing, calming without sounding "new age". The violin brings a classic touch in many songs and you can hear the accordion in a few songs wich I think is very original. We don't hear this instrument often and Bliss brings it beautifully. After a few weeks, I bought Afterlife and No One Built This Moment and I can tell you, I never skip a song on the albums, because I love them all.

THERE ARE FEW MOMENTS IN OUR HURRIED LIVES WHEN
SOMETHING SOMEHOW CATCHES OUR ATTENTION,SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU STAND STILL,SOMETHING THAT PUSHES THAT PAUSE BUTTON AND"NO ONE BUILT THIS MOMENT"IS ONE OF THOSE BLISSFUL MOMENTS. IN 2005 DENMARK'S BLISS CREATED "QUIET LETTERS"A REMARKABLE ALBUM OF QUINTESSENTIAL CLASSIC WORLD INSPIRED MUSIC. MARC-GEORGE ANDERSON AND STEFFEN AASKOVEN SINGLE HANDEDLY PRODUCED,ARRANGED AND MIXED PROBABLY THE PUREST MOST BRILLIANT RELEASE OF IT'S TIME. FOUR YEARS LATER THE BAND RESURFACES ONTO THE WORLD STAGE WITH "NO ONE BUILT THIS MOMENT"AND BLISS FANS WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. NO WONDER IT TOOK FOUR YEARS - THIS IS PRODUCED WITH SUCH CARE,SUCH ARTISTRY COMBINING VIOLIN, CELLO,ACCORDION,ACOUSTIC GUITAR,PIANO AND LESS WE FORGET THE HAUNTING VOCALS FROM ALEXANDRA HAMNEDE - SHADES OF SADE ADU - EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL AND SHOWCASING THE OUTSTANDING TALENTS FROM ANDERSON AND AASKOVEN. SUPREME TRACKS - THE GEORGE O'DOWD (BOY)PENNED AMERICAN HEART - THE CELLO LACED STOP ME. GREAT TRACKS - MIVAHETSEK - BASCAR AZAD - CALLING THIS IS NOT A QUITE LETTERS REPLICA - IT'S FRESHER NEWER AND SHOWS HOW BLISS HAVE REINCARNATED THEIR CRAFT INTO ANOTHER LEVEL OF MAGIC. NO ONE BUILT THIS MOMENT - ON A SCALE OF ONE TO TEN IT'S A TEN - BUY IT OR FLY IT - BLISS IS A MUST BUY RIGHT NOW! - MUSIC FOR DREAMS AND SOME - BRILLIANT.

Simply put, this is another great CD in the collection of Bliss' works. The tracks continue Bliss' trademark mix of musical styles and all of them are worth listening to. This will undoubtedly be one of my favorite CDs of 2009.

I am such a HUGE fan of this Denmark group and willingly pay a higher price for their imports (**be careful--several groups, for some wacky reason, all have this same name. "Bliss UK" is NOT this group!).
It seems it took forever for this album to be released, and I was practically drooling all over myself when it finally appeared. Long story short: that Sophie chick from Zero 7 must have financially backed it or something, for although I usually like her voice "here and there," this entire thing is like a demo for her. Frankly, and I never thought I would ever say this, I find some of her vocals here quite grating. And amateurishly experimental sounding, which she is not. The fabulous arrangements and the outstanding abilities of the musicians are still here, but on the whole, I am sadly disappointed. That said, my fav track is "American Heart" with Boy George et al. I guess I'm just going to sit back and wait another five years or so for their next one and hope it will be as good as their previous three (Afterlife, Quiet Letters, They Made History) that I have. |
