Book Description

In upstate New York, Brett and Pamela Jameson find the house of their dreams on twenty acres of land. Bucolic and serene, it is the answer to all of their prayers. But their dream soon turns into a nightmare when violent ex-gang member Rory Madden, the property’s former owner returns, and will stop at nothing to reclaim the home he lost to foreclosure. Rory unearths the secrets hidden within the Jameson family, and begins to leverage his knowledge to slowly drive wedges between them. When their seventeen year-old daughter Justine falls prey to Rory’s advances, she becomes a co-conspirator, setting about a series of increasingly treacherous events that could forever tear the Jameson family apart.

A terrifying odyssey into the dark side of the American dream, No One to Hear You Scream captures the fear of the modern middle-class, the alienation of those left out, and the heart-stopping terror at the realization that it can all be taken away in an instant.

2.0 out of 5 stars WHERE IS THE ENDING?? May 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was just okay--by no means Great. There was no closure AT ALL. I kept flipping pages thinking I may have been missing some pages. Left too many things unfinished. Could have been so much better.

Save your money--if it's free....may be good to kill some absolutly boring time!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unlikeable Family Made It Hard To Care! March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Yes, this book was suspenseful (enough so, that I finished it rather quickly)! However, I just didn't care that the Jameson family was being threatened by cold-blooded killer Rory Madden, because I couldn't stand anyone in the family! I did like the baby Abigail and Duke, the Chocolate Lab puppy, (probably because they couldn't talk), but the human/adult people in the family were awful! Brett Jameson, the father, was a spineless wimp; Pamela, the step-mom was a bitchy tramp and Justine, the teenage daughter, was a whiny, selfish, spoiled brat. She felt that her parents were "out to get" her and her baby (Abigail) even though they(the parents)were uncomplainingly supplying them with a roof over their heads and food to eat! I hated the way Brett called Justine "Sweets" after she had thrown one of her many tantrums! I was happy to get to the (unbelievable)ending so that I wouldn't have to read about these people and their terrible problems ever again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone Has a Secret June 7, 2011
Format:Paperback
Justine Jameson has her share of problems. She's a teenage single mother of an infant baby, recently moved back in with her father and stepmother after the failure of her relationship with the baby's father. Her parents' relationship is hanging by a thread, as is her father's business.

And that's not the worst of it. Justine hears things; voices in her head warning her of a horrible fate awaiting her child, warning her she is incapable of caring for a baby, making her fear for her very sanity.

When the dysunctional family buys a recently foreclosed home in a tiny, isolated New York town, things go from bad to worse for Justine. Her father works long hours attempting to save his business, her self-involved stepmother disappears for long stretches at a time, and Justine feels isolated and alone until she meets Rory Madden, a bad-boy Irish expatriate who sweeps her off her feet.

But Rory Madden may not be exactly what - or who - he appears. His past is one of violence and deception, and his motives are unclear, at least to Justine. When she discovers a strange text message on her stepmother's cell phone, a deadly chain of events is set into motion that threatens everything Justine Jameson holds dear, and death and destruction lurks around every corner.

NO ONE TO HEAR YOU SCREAM is Julia Madeleine's second book, and it is written with an eye for detail that draws the reader into the plot. As the wheels of apparent coincidence and ill will begin to turn faster and faster, the suspense builds until the reader is left turning pages in a breathless attempt to discover who - if anyone - will survive a violent showdown.

The characters are layered, developed fully and richly, and every one of them has a secret which influences their actions.

2.0 out of 5 stars And????? November 19, 2012
By Angel
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really enjoyed this book until the end. I was left wondering what happened to everyone? We know what happens to Rory although even that was weird. Had to give it only two stars because the ending was so horrible. It was as if the author thought..ok..done with that..tired of this book I will just end it. Not happy at all. I give credit where it is due but won't given credit to books that leave me hanging or confused.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, brilliant novel November 23, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The term "novel" means exactly that; something original, something new. And, each novel should be exactly that.

Precisely what Julia Madeleine's novel, NO ONE TO HEAR YOU SCREAM is. An original work.

For starters, it takes us inside the mind of a brutal criminal. Madeleine isn't the first novelist to do so, but unlike many who attempt to convey criminals to their readers, hers rings true. As a former criminal myself, I'm perhaps more sensitive to how writers portray outlaws, and to be honest, most get it wrong. Trust me--Julia doesn't.

This is a brilliant character study on several levels. Involved is a teenager with mental issues, a father and stepmother with mental and emotional issues, a criminal with mental issues--in short, a typical dysfunctional family. Seriously, the insights delivered into these characters are brilliant and come on nearly every page.

NO ONE TO HEAR YOU SCREAM reminded me in a way of Charles Bukowski's best story (imo), "The Fiend" in that it delivers a man who is presumably totally evil to most who might know him, but shows the spark of humanity that resides in all of us, even the worst among us.

If you like your fiction dark and original and to keep you up late at night turning the pages, this is the novel for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Not-to-be-Missed Thriller!!! May 15, 2011
Format:Paperback
Amazing characterization, twisting plots and constant action will keep readers riveted to the pages of No One to Hear You Scream!

No One to Hear You Scream is a story of blackened innocent. Questions, doubts, revenge and lies. The "gray people" totally sent shivers down my spine as goose flesh prickled, the passion sent tingles and the murders ripped my heart into tatters. I have to honestly say that Julia Madeleine wove a perfect story to send my emotions on a roller coaster ride with no breaks.

I hate to admit this, but I felt such a controversial compassion for Rory, the "bad guy" of the book. I kept thinking to myself "This guy is bad. He kills people. Why do I feel for him?" Crazy as it sounds, there it is. Of course, I also felt a deep empathy for Justine, her life and her baby girl. With so many emotions packed within No One to Hear You Scream, there was never a dull moment.

In reality, the story, itself, is one that could easily happen anywhere, to anyone. It is real and deals with real people. The true possibility of the situations is one of horror, but not far fetched by any means. Perhaps this is one of the reasons it is such a captivating read. For lovers of suspense and thrillers, No One to Hear You Scream is a sure winner and a must read. This is Ms. Madeleine's second novel and I can't wait to read her first release, Scarlet Rose as well as her future releases.

To give readers a glimpse into No One to Hear You Scream, I wanted to provide a short excerpt from Chapter One:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He spied movement from beneath her skull as a pool of dark red crept steadily across the hardwood. Could it stain? Too late, he realized. He should have planned this better, put down some plastic.
