Having just recently rediscovered the awesomeness of 80's metal, I began by blasting my eardrums with Scorpions. YouTube provided a great way to find the songs that I liked without risking spending money for albums or songs that I didn't want."No One Like You" had a number of videos, but when I went to purchase the MP3, I found to my dismay that the original studio recording was not the one that I was groovin' on! After a bit of searching I discovered that the track I wanted was actually this live recording. The differences are subtle but VERY distinctive. The studio track definitely seems to be recorded in a higher key, making the guitars sound more strident and shriek-ey. However, the live recording ROCKS!! It has a much stronger bluesy feel to it and doesn't seem to wail at me like fingernails on a chalkboard. It seems to be the case quite often that songs will be recorded and released, but then perfected once they're taken on the road and the band has the opportunity to work out the kinks. |
