5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!
I lost faith! I thought the singer/songwriter was a dying breed, especially in the late 90's with all the boybands and pop music. Well, the singer/songwriter line won't die off quite yet, thanks to the glorious efforts of Jude. What can I say except WOW! 3.0 out of 5 stars Self-conscious, too poppy
The songs on this album have the potential to be really good. A couple of them have funky hooks, but they are just not taken to their full potential. Jude makes too many compromises and is too self-conscious on this album. He is obviously very talented and needs to stop over-analyzing his own lyrics and just create. If you want something stronger, try Beck.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, February 4, 2000

I lost faith! I thought the singer/songwriter was a dying breed, especially in the late 90's with all the boybands and pop music. Well, the singer/songwriter line won't die off quite yet, thanks to the glorious efforts of Jude. What can I say except WOW! I first heard Jude on the "City of Angels" sntrk, I was enthralled by his voice, I had to find out who this singer was. Well a little while later I found his CD on the new artist wall at a local store and the rest is history.

Lyircally this album is pure poetry. Musicaly, Jude tenor voice is just amazing, especially on "I Know".

It is hard to pick a favorite song on this CD beacause ALL of them are great, but I would say the tracks most worth checking out are the aforementioned "I Know", "Battered Broken" and "I Do".

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant favorite, May 23, 2000

Rarely do I purchase CDs after hearing a single song, but after hearing Jude's incomparable voice and clever lyrics on "Out of L.A.", I instantly bought the CD. I can't remember the last time I have liked a CD so much after the first listen, but every track on this CD is simply fantastic. From hauntingly poetic ballads to folky upbeat tracks, Jude masterfully continues the tradition of great singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and more recently Dave Matthews and Ben Harper. "I do" will make even the coldest heart melt, while "Out of L.A." will have you laughing and tapping your feet. Even if you've never heard of Jude, get this album. It's well worth the risk - you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angelic Voice, Devilish Tongue, December 27, 1999

I stumbled upon Jude when skipping through the City of Angels Sountrack ("I Know"), and was instantly addicted. I raced out, and discovered that everyone else in the free world loved him as much as I do, because every copy of No One Is Really Beautiful was sold before I could get there. It took another 2 months on a waiting list to get it, but it was WELL worth the wait. Jude's voice is transporting, his lyrics clearly reflect our times (as good and as bad as that might be), and his music is simply amazing. I find myself listening to his CD almost everyday, and humming the words to myself when not near my CD player. One of this decade's truly addictive songwriters/performers. The only problem I have with him is his limited US Tour Schedule!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long time fan, first time review., April 30, 2005

Jude has been my favorite artist, and this has been my favorite album, since I heard "Rick James" debut on the radio in the early 00's. It's been a long, good five years, and I'm finally writing a review here. This CD has remained in the front pocket of my CD case since I bought it, for quick and easy access to amazing lyrics, astounding vocals, and a incredible musical talent. I have never felt music like I feel this music; this is good shiznat, yo. Rock it.

If you are interested in this CD, also check out his earlier album, 430 N. Harper St, and his later one, King of Yesterday, as well as his newest album Sarah (hard to find but a gorgeous album self-produced by the artist).

5.0 out of 5 stars Lyrics You Can Relate To, February 22, 2003

This review is from: No One Is Really Beautiful (Audio CD)
I first heard Jude from listening to a friends CD one night in the car. I didnt think anything of it, until he told me to listen really closely to "I Do." After the first couple lines i knew i would like this song. I related to it, and i really enjoy songs when you can do that. It was a real tearjerker - i loved it. If you want an artist who is real and write what he knows, then Jude is the guy for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Great Guy!, January 1, 2000

This review is from: No One Is Really Beautiful (Audio CD)
I first found Jude one day when I was in a record store and he was on the listening station. Since I will give any male singer a try I did. I bought the cd after listening to snipits of the first 3 songs. This album is wonderful. The lyrics are engaging and catchy, and Jude's voice is beautiful. I still listen to this album all the time. Check out Jude's earlier album as well, because even though a few of the songs are the same they are different versions and include some other really great ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Only Buy One CD This Year, Make It This One., July 28, 1999
This review is from: No One Is Really Beautiful (Audio CD)
I have been an avid fan of Jude's for a couple of years now, and every friend that I've loaned this CD to has become hooked. Jude is a bright star in today's world of plastic, saccharine "pop artists". This is one of the few albums I've ever owned that I play at least 4 times a week. It pretty much has a permanent spot in my CD changer. Jude is a truly gifted songwriter. His lyrics are intelligent without being pretentious, touching without being maudlin, funny without being moronic. His compositions are amazingly fresh and original. His voice has the most amazing range I have ever heard: sultry one minute and heartwrenching the next. The first time I heard him sing, my breath was literally taken from me. Thank you again, Jude, for a truly remarkable effort. P.S. If you like this one, check out his first CD: 430 N. Harper Avenue. It is every bit as astounding as this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, April 5, 1999

This review is from: No One Is Really Beautiful (Audio CD)
I was driving along, and I heard Jude in an interview on KPCC (Pasadena)

By accident, I happend to see his cd in a pile of used cd's at a record store the very next day. Having really liked the live, acoustic versions of "Brad and Susie" and "Rick James" I picked it up, and have to say--I love the rest of it even more than the songs he played during the interview! He sounds a bit like a cross between early Paul Simon, and...? Voice Farm? I don't know what... but it's original, and good!

Worth checking out!

(hey Jude...if you're out there...any plans on touring San Francisco Bay Area?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Jude..... need I say more?, January 7, 2003

If you've never heard Jude, you've never heard music. Oh sure, you may have heard someone sing a song. But when you hear music, you truly know it, and this is it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll sing along in your car and won't care that people are pointing and laughing (that is, if you can sing the lyrics like he does, which is IMPOSSIBLE!)

5.0 out of 5 stars This one should be in everyone's cd rack....., December 30, 2000

This review is from: No One Is Really Beautiful (Audio CD)
There are very few cds I can listen to straight thru, and this is one of them. "No One is Really Beautiful" is a wonderful cd! Everyone should own this! Everyone should find at least one track they relate to, and most will find several. Jude cannot be locked down into any one style. There's pop, ballads, funk.... And the lyrics! The music is great, but those lyrics are amazing! Jude is a clever, clever man. I first heard "Rick James" on the radio, and couldn't quite decide what I thought of it. It just wasn't my usual fare. But the more I heard it, the more I got into it. A coworker mentioned she had the cd and offered to let me borrow it. I listened to it that night and the next day I was shelling out well spent dollars. Buy this cd! Tracks 2-7 are great and #3 is my fav.
