No Ordinary Family was one of the greatest shows of the 2010-2011 season. It didn't dissapointed me at all, because the main cast is just amazing.
The plot is fresh, and it's (actually) a renovation of the whole superpower fiction. This first (and only season) is exciting, mysterious and it didn't tried too hard to be liked, because the ones we saw it know what i'm talking about. I wish it would come back for a second season, but ABC always makes wrong decisions that are about to be regret, because No Ordinary Family had better chances to improve than other veteran shows that just keep recycling stuff.

This show is a "must buy" if you like science fiction, and of course "no ordinary" plots.

This series was not given a chance to develop but had a great story line. Wish that the producers of this show would find a way to finish another season of this.

Take what's best from The Sheild (Michael Chiklis) and worst from Dexter (Julie Benz, aka Dexter's wife "Rita"), put 'em together with a healthy dollop of "The Six Million Dollar Man" and you've got the barebones of the new series, "No Ordinary Family".

It starts off more than a little cheesy and there's no need to say far-fetched, but some of the scenarios are kind of fun once the series gets rolling, and if you can get past some of the overlong "family drama moments" in the beginning - remember how Rita used to sandbag Dexter at home with her "smotherly" affection? Well, she's still got enough of that here, but fortunately has developed other interests like running at the speed of light, which causes her personality on the show to have come up a notch since Dexter. Chiklis as Vic in "The Shield" never greatly impressed on the home front in that series, and his work as a father here gets by in similar manner initially as he's run over every which way by his wife, daughter, and son. He's still fun outside the home though. However, while the show's family drama stuff is pretty sappy in the beginning, the scenarios created by each of them having super powers makes for some more than watchable moments anyway. Jim Powell (Chiklis), the father, can jump huge distances, and is impervious to bullets while simultaneously being a mild-mannered sketch artist at the police station. The wife runs so fast you can't see her (but excuse me, I find it hard to beleive vacuuming will be effective at this speed). The daughter, in cliche 'teenage turmoil' can read minds (useful for discovering where super-elite frat parties are going to held), and the son develops into a mathematical genius (suprisingly useful when he joins the football team).

I Like this show a lot better than I expected to like it. The premise is that 4 ordinary people get superhero type powers. So they still live their regular lives while trying to best use their powers for good purposes. Michael Chiklis plays the father. If you have never seen him on anything but THE SHIELD, as psycho cop Vince Makey, then you won't believe the U turn in characterization. However, I'd seen him on several seasons of his tv series, THE COMISH, before THE SHIELD, and this is a similar role to that one. I also saw him on a Seinfeld episode. So I am not surprised Chiklis is this versatile. He's an excellent actor, of that there is no doubt.

The actress who played Rita on DEXTER is now playing Chiklis's wife. She is also doing a very good job. I think I may like her in this role better as she has more of an edge to her. The two kids are fine. They seem like ordinary teens. A terrific character is George, an ADA, who is Chiklis's best friend. He is over the moon that Chiklis is a super hero. He even buys a special car to run him over as a test and then builds him a lab as his "bat cave". George is terrific and may be the best character on the whole show.

Give this one a try.

I loved the series, but was looking forward to a better climax to the end of the season. I think it was cut short.

Saw this in the bargain bins at Wal-mart and picked it up, never having heard of it before. A great deal! The casting is great, I have liked Judy Benz since Buffy/Angel and Michael Chilkis has been great in everything he has been in, dating back to the Commish and Wiseguy. The two kids are very sympathetic as well, although I could have done without the teen angst. Autumn Reeser as the lab assistant, is actually my favorite character on the show, her character should have also been the one given superpowers! She steals every scene she is in.

Having said all that, the show had multiple issues and I can see why it got cancelled. First, the stories are a bit lacking, very few of the episodes, if any, seem to stand out as memorable. It is hard to make people want to watch a show from week to week if it supplies little in the way of drama. Also, the villains are not dark enough, they are like the villains one might see on Charlie's Angels. You really can't have a conflict of good vs. evil if there is no evil. The first season of Heroes, still one of the best seasons ever on TV, stands out in memory because of the super superhero villain Sylar. Here we have Stephen Collins who I have to say is too nice to play his role. The most believable menace was Anthony Michael Hall playing an abusive father who gets super powers, but he only guest stars. Also, even though the show is about family, I could have done without the family drama, which has been done to death and is lame at best. Mixing comedy at times was a bit of a mistake, too, as, a lot of times, it just isn't funny. If there had been a second season, I have to believe they would have fixed some of these problems, alas we will never know. It is on the same level as the Greatest American Hero or the Cape, so if you liked either of those shows, you will probably like this as well.
