Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Fifteen-year-old Jordan Pruitt has the power to reverse charges of fogyism in households across America: The songs on No Ordinary Girl skew heavily teen-ward (check song titles like "Miss Popularity" and "Who Likes Who"), but whether you wear bifocals or a retainer, she'll reel you in--before you know it you, too, could be singing about how you want a cellphone and the keys to the Mercedes (see "Teenager"). Pruitt made a name for herself prior to No Ordinary Girl with two singles; "Outside Looking In" and "Jump to the Rhythm," both included here, burned up the original soundtracks to two Disney Channel movies. What separates her from the mouse-ears-wearing pack, though, is genuine promise. Pruitt's is a stylish voice--creamy and sweet and a little quirky. It serves her exceptionally well on these featherweight songs, not one of which won't be relatable to anyone who has ever sought refuge from the horrors of high school in a pop song. More important, it's suited for weightier material--MySpace subscribers may claim Pruitt as their talented mascot for now, but don't be surprised if she's belting anthems for minivan drivers a few albums down the line. --Tammy La Gorce

4.0 out of 5 stars Safe Teen Themes, Cool Album, February 8, 2007
It's kind of hard to keep up with all the new young singers on the scene. Okay, well here is the back story on Jordan Pruitt. She wasn't a part of the recent High School Musical Tour-but she did open on the tour. She is signed to Hollywood Records, a company which releases a lot of Disney related albums. Whereas a lot of the "new school" girls are going for a pop/R&B edge, Jordan seems to walk the line of rock and pop.

No Ordinary Girl is a very tween/teen oriented album. The song themes are perfect for the high school scene. Songs like "Miss Popularity" and "Teenager" are sure to resonate with the teen scene. "Over It" is sure to be a popular break up song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Appropriate -harmless, teenage pop., February 10, 2007

I don't mind my children listening to this album. It's harmless pop, and Jordan is a talented young lady, I think her voice is special. Of course, I'm going to rank her music on a different standard than more mature artists. I'm comparing her to the likes of Hannah Montana, Ashley Tisdale, and Jesse McCartney.
