Book Description

No Ordinary Man April 1998
Torey would probably never know why she had allowed him to kiss her. It wasn't as if it was unexpected. It wasn't as if she hadn't seen it coming. She'd clearly understood his intent. She'd gone into it with her eyes wide open.

Trouble.

She had known the man was going to be trouble from the first moment she'd laid eyes on him earlier that evening. She just hadn't known what kind of trouble.

The trouble was he was handsome and intelligent and sexy and strong and a hundred other things she had always looked for in a man and never found until tonight.

The trouble was he kissed her better than any man who had ever kissed her.

The trouble was she wanted him.

She was wise enough, however, to accept the fact that she didn't always get what she wanted, and sometimes -- many times -- it was for the best.

But could it matter so very much if she were to indulge herself for another minute or two?

Torey answered her own question.

No.

"Liar!"

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Victoria "Torey" Storm, a minor character in Simmons' Paradise Man (1997), takes center stage in this contemporary romance. The Newport, Rhode Island, heiress is suffering from such severe ennui while hosting a huge society ball she mistakes her distant cousin Mitchell Storm for a waiter. That is ironic, since he has just inherited a lordship, making him responsible not only for the population of a small island off the western coast of Scotland but also for some serious debts. Heeding his grandfather's last words, he has come to secure Torey's help in looking for a lost family treasure. As Mitch and Torey search for the missing image of Queen Victoria, travel to Scotland, learn more about their family history, and deal with unwanted visitors with a secret agenda, their initial attraction deepens. This is a fun read, with many elements sure to please romance fans: a wealthy yet likable heroine, a dashing hero, an exotic locale, and suspense laced with humor. Patty Engelmann

4.0 out of 5 stars An extremely pleasant, straightforward love stor: JOY!, June 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: No Ordinary Man (Mass Market Paperback)
Victoria (Torey) Storm, a fabulously wealthy, attractive, sincere, and kind young woman from the U.S. East Coast (is this possible, really?) is attracted to and helps her fourth cousin, Mitchell Storm, Chief of the Scottish Clan Storm, find a buried treasure that makes it possible for Mitchell to live on his island, take care of his 800 island clansmen, and offer Torey a life of beauty and charm. The dialogue is simple, witty, and honest. The plot blends modern and historical. The setting flits from East Coast mega-wealth to a quaint Scottish island. Although the "struggle" is not difficult and you never doubt the outcome, the dreamlike, wispy heroine and always correct, strong hero keep you reading just to enjoy the calm of these happy, confident people. You want this couple, and their friends, to be your friends.

Suzanne Simmons's "NO ORDINARY MAN" is a great book. At first it seemed like one of those old love novels, which tend to be boring, but Ms. Simmons did herself well when writing this book. It's trully amazing the way it all happens. I would recommend it to everyone!
