soulful exploration and celebration, July 9, 2008

Danny Liston clearly knows of what he sings - God's forgiveness, and the ability to turn a life around through the miracles of mercy and grace. This is communicated in a blues/light funk groove and Liston's well worn, honest, gravel like tones.
I could have done without the female back-up singers that appear on tracks like "Look at What You've Done for Me." Their peppy intrusion breaks the spell of Liston's voice and makes the listener overly aware that this is a production - I can almost see them standing around the mike, headphones on, waiting for the cue. Also, Liston's vocals on "Amazing Grace" are phenomenal, but he chose to use the melody line from the Animals "House of the Rising Sun." That's fine, but I've heard it before and would have hoped for something a little more original.
However, overall the album is a smooth piece of work and I defy anyone to listen to "Change the World" and not feel motivated to get off their behinds and do some work. This track deserves some airplay. "God Will Make a Way" is typical of many of Liston's songs, lyrically simple but scriptural and thus powerful declarations of hope. Other standouts include "Holy Spirit You Are Welcome" and the title track "No Other Name." Both are songs of worship that come straight from the spirit and soul of a man who has a tremendous musical talent that is only amplified by the gift he has found in the message of Jesus Christ.

Music for the Christian Soul, December 4, 2009
This review is from: No Other Name (Audio CD)
Outstanding solo CD from Danny Liston, of Mama's Pride out
of St.Louis. Contemporary Christian music with a great heart.
His country-rock background was a prelude for reaching out to
God later in life, and using his music to help others along the
way. His 1st solo CD, "Last Call" was great, but he takes it to a
different level this time. His take on "Amazing Grace" has got a bit
of funk to it. "Change the World" and "God will Make a Way" will
reach into your heart. Tremendous effort from a man who sounds like
he found some peace.

Well Done, July 28, 2009
This review is from: No Other Name (Audio CD)
I purchased this cd because I heard Amazing Grace on
the internet radio and like his version of it so much.
I had no idea what an absolute Treat I was in for! I
love this album so.... much! It gets tiresome listening
to the same ol songs over and over. Danny's music is
scriptural and so different from what's on the radio.
I think I've listened to this cd nonstop all week in my
car. His music ministers and he sounds great.
