4.0 out of 5 stars This book was exciting and hard to put down.
I found Skylar Conner quite interesting and the story about her past was very original. Hawke was an interesting character as well and I liked the way he was trapped between the two worlds. I didn't like the characters interactions with the Souix people and culture though, I found it fake and unconvicing, But all in all I found the book entertaining and fun to read...

The trilogy continues with the saga of Shawna and David. Secrets abound in this book - who is pregnant?, who was pregnant?, who slept with whom?. The trilogy continues with the saga of Shawna and David. Secrets abound in this book - who is pregnant?, who was pregnant?, who slept with whom?. Too many secrets and a poorly developed plot ruined this book. The secrets never seemed worth keeping, causing the whole premise of the book to crumble. I also hate this author's trademark forced seductions. Can't her heroines ever maturely realize that they would like to sleep with the hero. The occassional forced seduction can be quite sexy (see The Well Pleasured Lady), but this author uses the template again and again in all her novels. I did not enjoy this book and do not recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Many Secrets and Immature Behaviour, March 17, 2004
This review is from: No Other Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is full of secrets about babies and pregnancies and affairs and religious groups, etc... It was too much for me. This book is trademark Shannon Drake - with cliches designed to build tension, forced seductions, shrewish heroines, etc... If you like those types of activities, then read the book. However, if you like a poignant journey to love between mature adults, pass this book up.

WOW, this was a great book. I could not put it down. This is a wonderful series, a must read! These were the first set of books I have read by her and I will for sure keep on reading them. Not only were they romance books, but lost of mystery that was completely captivating!

I enjoyed reading this book. It kept me entertained throughout the novel. It was very suspenseful and mysterious. I was very excited to find out how the mystery unfolds and the relationship between Douglas and Shawna kept me riveted.

This book just didn't fit in the trilogy. We went from American soil and the escalating Indian problems, to some weird satanic cult in Scotland. The author tried to make a "who fathered this child" mystery throughout the book, and yet it was so glaringly obvious what was going on. The plot wasn't that believable and the whole time you just wanted to know what was going to happen back in America with the characters from the first book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT Scottish Mystery for the 2nd in the Series!, October 20, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: No Other Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
One thing I love about a series by Heather Graham (aka Shannon Drake) is that even though you can read them alone, the books are all connected. It's like reading one long story. The first in the "No Other" trilogy was set in the last 19th century, in the Black Hills of what is today western South Dakota, at a time when the white man was pushing the Indians, particularly the Lakota Sioux, ever farther west. There we met half breed Hawk Douglas and his love Skylar, wed by proxy.

This second in the trilogy takes us from the Black Hills of the American frontier to Scotland for a story of intrigue, betrayal and pagan beliefs in the lives of two closely related clans, Douglas and MacGinnis. Lady Shawna MacGinnis has never recovered from the night she lured David Douglas to the stables of his castle where a fire claimed his life. After 5 years of being laird of both clans, Shawna is shocked when David returns. Sneaking into her bedroom like a wraith, he is bitter and hardened and blames her for what happened to him, but he still wants her and will have her even as he becomes the master of disguise and stealth (learned from his half breed brother) to discover the truth and have his vengeance.

It's a good story with many characters, many threads and lots of mystery. Of course, Skylar and Hawk come to Scotland when Hawk is summoned by the appearance of his brother's ring. And they bring along Skylar's sister, Sabrina, who after a night of accidental passion, is now pregnant with the child of Hawk's best friend, Sloan. (See? I told you the stories are connected!)

I enjoyed this one and recommend all three in the trilogy: NO OTHER MAN, NO OTHER WOMAN, NO OTHER LOVE. Read them in order.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bodice Ripping Old School Historical....., December 31, 2007
This review is from: No Other Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
this Victorian Historical Romance, written in 1996, was in the old school vein of flighty, big time "too stupid to live" heroines, mega alpha male heroes, and various and sundry highly implausible secrets, adventures and downright silly storylines- satanic cults anyone?

All that being said-if you are feeling nostalgic for a classic "bodice ripper" then look no further. Ironically, this book reminded me of the Mexican Soap Opera always being parodied on Ugly Betty. Screaming, fainting, fighting, kidnapping and actual bodice ripping are contained in this 375 page tome. Sometimes bad is a good thing:)

3.5 stars.
