The real deal, December 18, 2008

I can't remember the last time I heard a new hardcore record that sounded this... authentic. Final Conflict was one of my favorite bands over 20 years ago, but I haven't listened to them in ages. Even though Jeff Harp is the only member from back then, these guys haven't missed a beat. (And now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that when I was listening to them back in 1987, Jeff Harp was the only "original" member then too.) Tim Sawyer's voice isn't exactly like Ron Martinez's, but his delivery is like a spot-on impersonation, whether it's intentional or not. If I have any quibble, it's that the drums sound too... I dunno, modern. I suppose standard drum recording techniques have changed in the last 20 years. I'm going to dig out my copy of Ashes to Ashes now, I'd forgotten how great this band was.
