The first Pryor box, "...And It's Deep Too!," has been out of print for several years. About two years ago, Shout! Factory asked me to co-produce another Pryor box to fill the void. At that point, the only thing that had been decided upon was that the new box would include all three concert films on DVD. ("...And It's Deep Too!" was devoid of video content altogether.) The biggest challenge for me was to include enough quality "new" material to entice someone who'd already bought the first box to fork over for the new one. I also set out to avoid plundering "...And It's Deep Too!" too badly because I didn't want those who own it to feel that they wasted their money the first time around if they purchased the new box. And then we considered those who completely missed out on "...And It's Deep Too!," so we sought out to make "No Pryor Restraint" a more than worthy substitute.
So here's what we did... Recordings from all of Pryor's Warner Bros. albums are represented on this package, most of them very liberally, along with the best of the previously unreleased material that first appeared on "...And It's Deep Too!" In addition to that, much of the early material that was included on the 2-CD follow-up, "Evolution/Revolution: The Early Years (1966-1974)," appears here as well. ("...And It's Deep Too!" and "Evolution/Revolution" only have one track in common. The former covers his Warner Bros. recordings only.Read more ›
Yes, if you read closely it does state that it the "Best" of all his classic albums, but even that is misleading as some of his best routines IMO are not present.
Having the 3 Concert Films inlcuded is what raises the price but for the greateness of his audio material I highly reccomend you buy a pre owned copy of the out of print "And It's Deep Too" which is all the complete albums witht he exception of "Craps (After Hours)" but which is available for download. Although "And It's Deep Too" doesn't come with the stand up movies, the audio versions of those films are included.
Plus, you can purchase those stand up films individually at inexpensive prices.
If you do choose to get "And It's Deep Too" just be sure to read closely what the seller states to ensure it's in good condition and that all the discs are there, as with any pre owned item.
If you're a hardcore fan, you probably have seen all three of the concert films included here, but it's great to have them in one place. If you haven't seen them yet--well, get watching.
That still leaves a mind-boggling 7 CDs. I played them in my car and couldn't stop laughing, and marveling at how relevant his best bits still are.
If you want to know what stand-up comedy is all about, or be reminded of Pryor's genius, start here.
I can't recommend this collection strongly enough.

While it was funny in its day, seems a little dated now. I guess I got a little jaded as time went by.Published 11 months ago by PAUL S LOOMIS
