2.0 out of 5 stars Blech!
A very poor quality recording, so some of it is hard to comprehend. I was not impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Respect Rodney, August 14, 2001

In 1980, Rodney Dangerfield was at the height of his popularity and at the top of his form. That year his landmark comedy album "No Respect" was released. It went on to win the Grammy Award for best comedy album of the year. It wasn't until 2000 that "No Respect" was finally released on CD, but it's well worth the wait. It is the definitive Rodney album, and contains many classic bits. The jokes come frequent, fast and furious. Here's one example. "Today's been a terrible day. I got up this morning, picked up my shirt and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase and the handle fell off. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom!" I just hope that the album "Rappin' Rodney" follows suit and is released on CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...His "2nd" best LP..., June 5, 2005

The LP/CD No Respect is the one for which we'll all remember Rodney, a comedy legend. It's a must-buy for all Rodney fans. But...for an even FUNNIER Rodney recording, try and check out Rappin' Rodney (1983) on rare, hard-to-find LPs, audio tapes or eight-track tapes. I don't know why it was never released on CD, but on that one, his rapid-fire delivery and one-liners top even No Respect. I always wondered if maybe Rodney was a little embarrassed by the rap song "Rappin' Rodney" that he sung on that album -- which to some could sound a little out of date these days -- and maybe that was why he never pushed for it to be released on CD, but that was just a guess on my part. Who knows what the real reason is/was. But aside from the song, which I happen to think is funny too, the jokes on Rappin' Rodney will have you absolutely ROLLING in the aisles, if you can get your hands on it anywhere. The jokes on both No Respect and Rappin' Rodney are classic Rodney Dangerfield at his best, so definitely purchase No Respect if you're any type of Rodney fan. If you've ever seen him on The Tonight Show, then you might've even heard him telling some of the same jokes heard on both recordings. Rodney was awesome at what he did...like I said...a comedy legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars True King of Comedy, July 29, 2005
This review is from: No Respect (Audio CD)
Rodney Dangerfield was the king of stand-up comedy and No Respect was his his best album. The one-liners just keep coming at you like a Muhammad Ali left jab back in the 60s....sorry, I probably have the worst analogies known to mankind....anyway, this album is the one that put Rodney over the top.If you aren't familiar with it, you will still remember having heard some of these jokes somewhere because after this album was released everyone was repeating them.(e.g., the other day I saw a guy jogging naked in front of my house...I said "why?"....he said "because you came home early!")
The jokes were short and to the point. Rodneys' timing was impeccable and he was ready to be a comedic star....this night and this album put him over the top. This isn't just a funny guy going thru the motions, this is a character-actor making you believe that he's for real. Most people love self-depracating humor because we can relate in some way...we've all been in awkward situations because of something we've said or done and we've all felt like "losers", even if for a brief, embarassing monment. Rodney can relate, he's been there....in his case, he's always there but that's the joke. We all get the game....his wife doesn't really cheat on him, his kids don't really hate him and his dad didn't really tell him to wait til the weather warms up before he goes ice skating....it's all a bit, we get it.... the doctor didn't really slap his mother when he was born and a hooker didn't really tell him "not tonight, I have a headache". No one could have that kind of on-going bad luck, could they? Rodney makes you believe that it's possible.
This very well could be the greatest stand up comedy album ever made...if not, it's close

4.0 out of 5 stars Is he a loser, a smartalec, or just a genius?, May 4, 2002

"I get no respect", has always been a Rodney Dangerfield trademark and if you have never heard Rodney's humor from his own mouth, then it is about time. This routine was recorded around 1979-80, and Rodney stayed in the limelight for about 10 years after this with various late night specials and even his own comedy show in 1988. In about 50 minutes of stand-up, Rodney goes from loveable loser, to a-hole, to sexual pervert, to jerk, to loser that is a jerk, to sarcastic twit, and finally to comic genius. Rodney was indeed the man, as his crazy jokes could indeed happen to anybody. I mean, who can't help but laugh at jokes about "Rodney's wife" being "easy", or even about Rodney seeing a naked guy jogging outside his house and when Rodney asks him why, the guy answers, "because you came home early".

I don't know how to classify Rodney Dangerfield, but I do know that he is one of the greats.

This is Rodney at his absolute peak, recorded around the time he did Caddyshack. I got this LP when it came out, even though I wasn't born yet, and never laughed harder at a record. I thought to write this because on a whim, I played it for a couple of friends last night and we were all hysterical. His timing is impeccable, and the fact that he keeps it up (not pun intended, Rodney) throughout the disc is amazing. The man was the greatest stand-up comic ever. This is the champ at his best. Buy it and your life will be much, much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars TALK ABOUT RESPECT, September 20, 2004

This is one of my all time favorite comedy albums. Rodney's best material delivered with machine gun speed. All the lines are now classics and have attained icon status. Put this one in a time capsule.

5.0 out of 5 stars Certified Classic!!, December 21, 2002
This review is from: No Respect (Audio Cassette)
As far as comics go Rodney is on top!! This late night comic is a crowd pleaser from the start. This CD is a riot. Rodney pokes at all types of people and doesnt leave himself out of the joke. From his wife to his kids no one is safe. I laughed from the start till the end. He IS a genius. This takes all of his talent and rolls it in one. Hands down one of the greastest stand up comics!! Worth the money for this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem from one of the greats!, April 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: No Respect (Audio CD)
Rodney Dangerfield is simply one of the best stand-up comedians of all time. This CD catches him at the top of his game in the '80s. Every line is a howler. He absolutely murders the audience with one liners that never miss their mark. It's a riot from start to finish. Absolutely no negative criticisms whatsoever. This is this album's first appearance on CD and I doubt it will be in print very long. Let's also hope that Rodney's other great LP, "Rappin' Rodney," will be released on CD some day soon. Few can match Rodney laugh for laugh and NO ONE can top him.

I bought this CD for my husband, who is a great fan of Rodney. I discovered that by watching him watch Jay Leno do his impersonation on the Tonight Show. My husband just loves to hear Rodney's jokes and thoroughly enjoyed listening to this title in his car. He was able to repeat the jokes to me and to his friends, which made it a very worthwhile purchase as a Christmas surprise stocking stuffer. My husband believes in trying to make others laugh. Since Rodney's delivery is based on rapid one-liners, the comedy is easy to remember and to repeat. I would highly recommend this to anyone familiar with the great comedian.

This CD gets no respect...I made it a coaster after listening to it.
This CD gets no respect...my dog made it a chew toy.
This CD gets no respect...I used it as target practice.

But it gets 5 stars. After all, Dangerfield is the best of all time.
