So, I kept on getting this as a 'You may like this' and kept on ignoring it because of the cover. However, at .99 I decided to to take a chance. EXCELLENT book. I started to read it and couldn't put it down, it just kept on drawing me deeper and deeper in. Great character development.

Try it, you won't regret it.

If I have to choose a paranormal `group' that I find most interesting it's witches, I grew up watching Bewitched after all. Morgan Hawkes in No Rest for the Wicca, is nothing like Samantha, she is an ex-homicide cop, using her half-Wiccan heritage to banish spirits in the `Ghostbusters' unit. When young witches are found brutally murdered, Morgan is drawn into the investigation against her will.
It's a strong premise that puts the story the realm of urban fantasy. LoTempio's world is a contemporary setting where the paranormal is known and includes a range of supernatural beings and beliefs. Morgan has a half Wiccan, half voodoo heritage and these religions play a central part in the plot. LoTempio shares some fascinating information within the context of the story, using the setting in the university cleverly. I can't judge the accuracy, but it certainly seems genuine and convincing. There are enough red herrings to distract you in the mystery, even though it is reasonably obvious who is behind things well before the conclusion.
Morgan's snarky attitude is amusing and she is very human despite her abilties. At times she is a little whiny and petulant but still she is satisfyingly complex. I particularly liked that we saw her relationship with cousin Xia - urban fantasy heroes are usually sadly lacking in family or close girl friends.
Cole St John has all the elements of a paranormal hero, he is a vampire with a tortured past, who denies his true nature to do good. His character is well developed and appealing, he is `masculine' yet not alpha. I really liked his role in the relationship with Morgan, he is supportive yet calls her out on her less attractive traits.

I very much enjoyed this book. This is an other book I couldn't put down. This is a fast-paced read and made me want to read even more.
If you are into the paranormal romance genre then I recommend this one.

At first glance No Rest for the Wicca seems like your run-of-the-mill indie book. The cover isn't an eye catcher but the synopsis had potential in my eyes and is the main reason why I added it to my to-be-read pile. After reading the first few pages I realized that this novel was going to be "one of those", a story that I just couldn't put down! Lovable characters, heart-pumping action and great world-building make this book a must read.

My favorite part by far was Morgan. She's an amazing character with a past that's just as colorful as her present. At first, she turns down the chance to work on a special assignment that's offered to her but when her cousin's life is threatened she quickly reconsiders. I can't help but admire someone who's willing to fight tooth and nail for those they love. Morgan had locked her voodoo half away after a previous mistake on the job but forces herself to revisit it. She's incredibly hard-headed, fiercely independent and never walks away from a fight. One of the things about her personality that made me love her even more was the fact that she doesn't believe in being promiscuous. Too many urban fantasy heroines jump into bed within the first few chapters of a book but not Morgan. Don't get me wrong, I love r-rated action as much as the next girl but it's nice to come across a protagonist with strong morals with regards to sex for a change.

The storyline is equally as captivating. It's well developed and Toni LoTempio does an excellent job of tying up all of the lose ends. Things that I'd forgotten about or disregarded as trivial came into play in the final chapters. The author's attention to detail is admirable! The murder investigation side of the plot transformed the book into a real page turner.

No Rest for the Wicca follows Morgan, a former homicide detective turned supernatural investigator who hides the pain of causing her partner's death behind a very tough and snarky exterior. While she isn't exactly content exorcising ghosts and demons and settling disputes between the various supernatural beings that live side by side with humans in Central City, she believes this is her penance for turning to dark powers as a last resort and unknowingly killing her partner in the process. Of half-Wiccan and half-Voodoo decent, she doesn't really have a strong hold in either world and just relies on her sensitivities to the spirit world to do her job.

When someone begins to target female pure blood witches and their bodies begin to show up ritualistically dismembered and with voodoo figures next to the bodies, Special Forces is called in and Morgan is asked to work along side sexy Inheritor vampire Cole St. John to bring the murderer to justice. While Cole (half-vampire/half-human) will go under cover as a teacher at a local college where every victim has attended magic classes, Morgan is an obvious choice to attend as a student undercover as well due to her Wiccan/Voodoo mixed heritage, as well as her experience in law enforcement. Morgan is reluctant to join the investigation until someone she loves unwittingly comes close to danger.

I love a good mystery. The clues are revealed at a great pace and they come from a lot of different sources. The story wasn't generic or predictable. Toni LoTempio writes very lovely dialogue and is great about never having a character just give a large "info dump" of dialogue. Her descriptions of the scenery and situations aren't overly wordy, so they don't take you out of the story.

Seriously? Half Wicca?
Nope, if you use real-life words like "voodoo" or "Wiccan," you cannot just coopt them for some other meaning. Especially if they have specific religious connotations.

It's like suspending your disbelief in a book where "Baptist" is synonymous with "all have... Read More
