interesting mix,

I had never heard this song before. It is refreshing to hear a completely new Christmas song. Two vocalists trade off on this piece (female and male), accompanied by guitar, drum, strings orchestration, and clarinet here and there (I believe). There's also an blues-style electric organ in the background.
The rhythm is good and pretty evenly paced throughout. Interesting mix of classical strings, acoustic guitar, blues electric organ and a jazzy clarinet. Each providing a light touch of different genres. Who would have thought of putting this all together and that it would blend well. I like the voices, the male voice is baritone and has a slightly rough edge that is an interesting contrast to his female counterpart (and doesn't sound like all the other male voices I've heard). This could easily have been a non-Christmas piece. If you like country, or blues and/or light rock, I think you would enjoy this a lot.

No, Its Not Bing Crosby, But That Could Be A Good Thing!,

You know, I love Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, and Burl Ives Christmas music as much as the next guy. I have close to 100 Christmas albums, from Rosemary Clooney to Dwight Yoakam, and Tony Bennett. But I'm always looking for something new and fresh.
Keep an open mind and let in something a little different. I am grateful Amazon gives us a taste of other artists and thats what this free download is all about. Maybe you'll like it, and check out the artists other offerings and buy them. If you want the same old Christmas music, go out, spend a few bucks and buy some albums, they're pretty inexpensive. I'd never heard of this artist before, but this song sounds great. Great vocals and great music. The song is obviously a reference to Joseph and Mary being turned away at the inn. I look forward to tomorrow's song, hoping it will be something new...AND good.

Not classic, but gorgeous,

This piece probably wouldn't be right for those just looking for happy, traditional Christmas songs, but it just might be perfect for people who want to expand their tastes a bit. The song tells the story of the innkeeper who wouldn't let Mary and Joseph have a room. It's absolutely beautiful, in my opinion. My favorite line comes when the exasperated innkeeper asks, "What can you give me? Can you save me?". It's a wonderful glimpse into the life of an overlooked figure. The song might not be a classic, but it's definitely going to be one of my staple Christmas songs.

As noted by the negative reviewers...if you are prepared to dislike anything that doesn't sound like traditional Christmas music, don't bother with this. However, if you appreciate great bluesy, well done music you will probably love this. The clarinet and guitar are masterful. This is a beautiful, skilled piece with a powerful message.

No Lady Gaga, That's For Sure!,

I'll agree with other reviews already posted. What I love about what Amazon is doing, is displaying music from different genres and artists that we don't normally get to hear from during Christmas time that get overshadowed by the traditional tunes. Not to say that traditional tunes are bad but Agnew provides us with a glimpse into a part of the story of why Christmas is important in the first place.
Musically, the bluesy texture of this song immediately attract my ears for deeper listening. Filled with a head nodding groove, earnest vocals that display desperation with their smoky, sandy textures, flying string arrangements, and an unexpected acoustic guitar/clarinet break down with a hint of disco groove leading out, are all things that you will find in this song. The writing, written from the stand point of the inn keeper in the Christmas story, show you a very modern take on a small business owner and his family struggling to get through hard times and a hard situation and trying to justify helping a poor family in need. It is an emotional and storybook crafted song which could be listened to even outside of Christmas time. A song worth more than free, so give it a listen since it is!

Come on just because its new doesn't mean it's bad. True it's not traditional, but it still brings everyone together in an uplifting sort of mood. If you're a traditionalist then I wouldn't recommend this song. But I have been away at school for 2 years and missing out on some of my old traditions. Perhaps I lost sight of what was what, or maybe I opened my eyes a bit. What I do know is what Amazon is doing with the daily song is totally rad. Giving us a little taste of different Christmas experiences. Will this song surpass those time life cd's probably not, but it will bring a little Christmas spirit your way. Best song out of the first 9!
I am curious who the lady singing is though, I like her voice...

I wouldn't normally even try a Christian band, but this song is interesting, lively, and beautifully put together. Not a traditional 'carol' but certainly about the Christmas story. I really enjoyed it, and I'll to check out this band's other work. Thanks!

I LOVE this song...I can listen to it on repeat for an hour. What a great modern Christmas song. I recommend it to anyone, even if you don't get it for free. I think I may even buy the whole album.

How is this not CHRIST - mas song. Quite Good Song,

I can't believe that people don't consider this a CHRIST mas song. Why do you think Christ is in the word Christ mas?
What I think and what confused me at first is that people think that it's about just people working at their jobs, but really it has to do with the innkeeper, and he's the one working hard. Here are these people (Mary and Joseph) who have little money, and they want a place to stay. If they were rich, they would probably kick someone else out of the inn just so they can get in the inn. Instead, they are stuck in a stable. I enjoyed this song as it's not the same tired songs, and the lady helps out the song a bit. I do like those old classics, but how many times can you hear the same song by 6 different singers. You can't get away from Christ or God in Christmas things. Even Santa who a person made bigger, and more jolly (to sell more merchandise) is really just a version of a Saint by Saint Nicholas who gave children to the poor in honor of God. If you have a Christmas tree, it's a symbol of eternal life. Of course, you make Saint Nicholas as Santa non-religious, and what happens is everyone that is non-Jewish, non-Kawanzi will have him in as he doesn't represent anything about Christ, but really he is just another version of a Saint to get everyone involved. Rearrange the letters from Santa to Saint minus an a and Clause from Nicholas minus more letters and I wonder if that's whe |
