Biography

The Terem Quartet is unique. As classically trained musicians, their technique and expertise are astonishing. As players of traditional folk instruments, their music is startlingly original.

The group came together at the Leningrad Conservatoire in 1986 and are still very rooted in the city of Leningrad (now St Petersburg). With just one accordion, two domras (lutes) and one huge bass balalaika,… Read more in Amazon's Terem Quartet Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Tatamka!, January 24, 2001

This review is from: No Russia Cannot Be Perceived By Wit (Audio CD)
This is just the best sounding cd of the russian band. It is more serious and has more depth then the other two Real World realizes. The listener find himself into vast russian lands smiling to musical jokes or sensing the Moscow sadness! Best heard near the home fire, with a glass of real vodka in your hand. Shiny song is a super-virtuoso playing of "Il Barbiere di Siviglia", written by G. Rossini. Some songs contain very nice houmor, but why the first is called Tatamka?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun music, May 17, 2001
This review is from: No Russia Cannot Be Perceived By Wit (Audio CD)
A brilliant album full of humour and terrific musicianship. I had never heard of this group before and was not at all familiar with Russian music, but I can honestly say that I am glad I took the chance and bought this cd. The quartet play the Bayan Accordian, Bass Balalayka and soprano and alto Domra. What is a Domra? It's one instrument that I have never heard of before. Anyone who loves instrumental and classical music...take a chance like I did and buy this cd. I'm sure you won't regret it.
